Scared about updating BIOS (X470 Aorus Gaming 5 WIFI)

hello there peeps,

Rig stats at the end of the post.

For a while I had regular crashes and always thought it might be the XMP-Profile of my ram sticks, but after I finally decided to disable XMP today and still experienced crashes I got a bit confused. So I looked around in my BIOS and noticed my BIOS version is massively behind (3 years old version!). Now I am very timid when it comes to updating bios, I actually never done it and I wanna know, how to prepare for it, what to look out for and what to do when something goes wrong (and how to prevent that, idealy). The BIOS version right now is F3 (see rig list).

I put up with it, because it didn't impact my work too much, but now I have affinity designer crashing after a few clicks without crash reports, which suggests something's wrong with the rig itself, not the software.

My rig:

Win 10 pro N 64

Mobo: X470 Aorus Gaming 5 WIFI

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8/16 cores @3.2GHz)

Mem: 2x8 corsair ddr4-2132 xmp-3200

Graphics: msi geforce gtx 1060 6gb

for extensive list see --> attached cpu-z log
