PC Crashes when External Hard Drive plugged in through USB

nielsmeulm

Good day!

For the past two days my PC has been crashing at random moments, and ALWAYS crashes when I plug in my external hard drive through USB.

I myself was wondering if this could be a Power supply issue? I've tried connecting it through a self-powered USB hub that was plugged into the wall, and this DID work. When I unplugged it from the wall, the PC crashed again.

Its not a regular crash, it literally does seem like a power outage.

I've been on multiple forums but have been struggling to find any answers that helped.

Specs:

Ryzen 7 3700x
RTX 2070

Ram: Team Group Vulcan DDR4-3000 16GB (2x8gb)
PSU: Cooler Master MWE Gold 650 Full Modular

Please help! Thank you!

Hello!

I've been having the same problems as you, and I'm pretty certain it's down to the PSU that we share.

I've been having random crashes when running games and then sometimes when starting back up. Then it crashes a bunch of times when i was reconnecting my external HDD.

Specs:
Ryzen 5 3600

GTX 980Ti

PSU: Cooler Master MWE Gold 650 Full Modular

MOBO: ASUS PRIME B450M-A

External HDD: WD Elements My Passport wdbbep0010bbl-01 (it's a pretty old one)

Let me know if you fixed the issue! Thanks!
