Is the GTX 1650 better than what I have.....

Hi everyone

I built a new pc a few months back works great but given the pandemic and sky high prices on GPU's I decided against buying a new one and paired my old card with my Ryzen 5-3600X. However my current card is slowly on its way out.

I have a R9 380X it worked great since I bought it new back in 2015 but recently it has had major stability issues and crashes quite often sometimes 3-4 times per gaming session. Other days it runs fine which is rather frustrating.

So I am on the lookout for a semi decent upgrade. I only game at 1080p and the only game that I cant run at all is Dirt 5. As the title suggests is the GTX 1650 a decent upgrade to what I have? Reason being I can get one for about $350 new.

I don't play the most demanding titles in the world either but I am trying to go through my steam backlog which has some games that are or were AAA titles (Witcher 3, Dirt 5 , etc.) otherwise I play games like Apex, LoL and Overwatch.

I'm just looking to get a couple of years out of the card at best so I can get through the great graphics card shortage.

Thanks

Is it an upgrade? Barely. Is it a worthy upgrade for $350? Hell no, its not that much better by any means.

Big nerd.

350? an 3060/3050 or 1660 would be closer to that price?

1650 is just worse that some of the 1660 cards, and how many version there are like ti and super variants.

so the 1650 is something I would only buy for around 100 or so.

Spoiler

as seen of the prices from around last 2 years or so

starting price of 250 for 1660 super. in the video at 5:38 or so

I agree but given the market right now I wish I could get a 3060 or 3050 for that price.
Issue is currently I have a graphics card that works when it wants too. My fear is that my card won't last the year given what its currently doing.

buying an 1650 would likely make you want to upgrade again very quickly, so I doubt it helps that much.

so long your gpu just works. there are cheaper lower end cards if one are just going to need a gpu else I wouldnt buy.

It's barely an upgrade so just leave it. Wait around for prices to comes down your current card can still game. Dirt 5 should not be a problem as people with a weaker 1050ti can run it at 1080p low 60fps.

The 1650 is about 10% faster, the 1650 super is about 60% faster.

Just get a 1650 super.
