I have a 3070 Suprim X, but just ordered a 6900XT aswell.. which one to choose.

Khonen

Hi there,

I just completed my first build, with the MSI 3070 Suprim X, which works, and has decent performance.

I have just managed to order a 6900XT (From AMD itself), and am wondering which card is the best to put in my build.

My PC is used for gaming mostly and will do a little streaming. I play Warzone mostly and some other games.

While streaming, the 3070 is not able to keep 144 fps (since I have a 144hz monitor) on 1440p (averaging 125 on 1080p), so I would be drawn to putting in the 6900XT rather than the 3070.

Pricewise: I paid the same for both cards. Looking at performance at the moment and streaming capabilities.

What do you think?

Regards,

Khonen

But why? Why would you do that??? I have no idea why you bought 2 GPUs. However the 6900XT is a much more powerful GPU. Hope this helps.

Because I saw an opportunity to either upgrade my build "for free", or make a quick buck (to use for a new monitor) for reselling the card. Because of the shortages, I could easily resell the card I choose not to use.

Ah, that makes more sense.

Well the 6900XT is a top of the card stack that AMD has right now. RTX 3090 would be the closest thing to one (or RTX 3080). The video encoder for streaming might not be the best on the 6900XT, but it'll do if you do it from time to time.

So to answer your question fully, 6900XT and sell the RTX 3070.

If that's the plan, your profit margins are a lot higher with selling the RTX 3070. Both cards are selling for around $2,000 on eBay, but the 3070 has much less up-front cost. It would be a better return-on-investment to sell the 3070 I believe (they're in higher demand). 👍

depends

the 6900xt can be easily resold for 1500/2000

the 3070 for 1200/1300

out of ebay, cash (so no fee in place)

they both do around 60mhs

frankly I would sell the 6900xt, you do more money, and nvidia has things that are more reliable (cuda, optix things that do miss on amd, and are pretty much used everywhere outside games)

for gaming performance dunno, see the benchmarks

Since I've got a reference 6900xt, I can make around 300 euro profit. I would profit around 150 on selling the 3070 suprim X. Performance of the 6900xt is 33% better at least. 3070 Has better looks, since it's the Suprim X, and a little better features. Only plus to the 6900xt is the raw gaming performance and the higher VRAM. I'm not using the card for mining. Could also sell the 6900xt and use the profit to try 'n get a 3080.

Also keep in mind nvidia drivers are a bit dodgy currently, you should definitely be able to stream while playing at ~144fps since there is an extra chip for that on the card, which in my experience isnt working properly right now however.

But still, a 6900 dwarfs a 3070 so im not sure why this is even a question? o.o

Well basically because from what I read online, AMD Drivers sucked, had less features (color settings, DLSS, RT performance, highlight recording) and it's recording encoder was cr*p.

Since I am streaming casually, I noticed that I was having difficulties on the 3070, laggy image etc. So I switched to CPU streaming (Ryzen 9, 5900x) and it works perfectly..

So I can also stream with 6900xt on CPU.

One of the only plusses of my 3070 atm is it's looks / RGB (Suprim), instead of the boring 6900xt reference card.

So if I understand you correctly, there is no reason why not to take the 6900xt.

ooor you can place both card in the market, and see the best offer

while waiting for the best offer, put em to mine, they should do around 120mhs
