Another 3 pin fan on 4 pin header question

Real_Smoky

Hi!

I have recently switched from a Gigabyte GA-H110-D3A mainboard to a GA-B150M-D3H mainboard.

On my old mainboard, I could control my 3 pin fans on 4 pin headers without any problems. The mainboard had 2x 4 pin headers and on them, I was able to control the speed of my fans, and it had 1x 3 pin header which would make any fan go full speed all the time.

On my new motherboard, I seemingly can't control the fan speed.

Are the headers somehow different? I am really at a loss here.

Thanks!

You will need to switch the headers in the BIOS from PWM to DC. This should allow you to control your 3 pin fans.

Head into BIOS, whether it be masshing Delete or an F* key. Locate the fan you're trying to adjust the speed of and there will be an option for PWM (allows you to change fan speed accordingly) and DC (full speed regardless)

Do all mainboards with 4 pin headers have this option? Because I can not find it in my BIOS options. Then again, this mainboard has a very old bios from 2015. Can this be resolved with a BIOS update?

The option to choose is rather new feature. But has been a thing for several generations. Before it, it was kinda automated. What are you using to control fans? SIV? Or BIOS? Gigabyte is actually bit bad with 3pin controls with both SIV and BIOS, so you may need to switch to 3rd party software.

BIOS update might help, but its not guaranteed.
