Correction, I've scoured up another 2 threads, 40 threads on the go!

Just got another 16 threads on WCG. I'm now completely tapped out at 128 threads - I physically have no more hardware that BOINC could be run on.

I think a large part of the point variation is the wide variation in run-times for the tasks. I'm seeing run-times from 7.5 hours to 23 minutes with a mean of about 2.5 hours across all my systems.

I'd suggest you don't mind that and just stick with WCG, because the stats have been very slow to get updated for me too. WCG tasks have the most meaningful impact in our final position. SiDock basically doesn't matter anymore. And who knows, we could secure 5th place by the tiniest of margins!

 

EDIT : Also, I believe the points counted are 7x that, although I could be mistaken.

Yea, that wasn't the main reason for switching, I'm fine with points being low but those spikes in usage were what got me but I'll switch back temporarily

By my back of napkin calculations we need to beat:

So we are in good shape if we can keep up production

The best news is that Rechenkraft is maxed out at 10.8 mil for their Third Best (if they can make a 12+ mil Jav Throw now), and HOCP is locked to 11.1 mil for the rest of the Javelin Throw.

CNT's Third Best is stuck at either 9,446,152 (their current score) or 9,958,596 (next best score). Gonna leave them in the dust.

The "Target" field in my updates show the scores we have to beat and the "/hr" the minimum productions over the next updates we need to exceed the Target.

 

We've already passed the Czech's and should pass Rechenkraft in 2-3 of the next 5 updates and HOCP in 3-4 out of the next 5.

 

So hopefully, if we can keep up production, we should be able to make it to 5th.

 

As for the Marathon getting over a million points in SiDock would be difficult as it is a dual quorum and even if they have massive bunkers they would also have to have had the wingman's result already validated to get the points. In other words they would have had to drop the Bunkers hours ago.

Late to javelin throw, didnt know I had to install world community grid's version to get it to connect but pushing 22 threads (keeping 2 to keep myself entertained) on it since 4 hours ago

If you have a sufficient number of tasks in your queues to get through the next 4 hours on WCG then I suggest setting the WCG project to "No New Tasks" This will accomplish two things:

1. It will limit the number of tasks you have to Abort if you are planning on either stopping BOINC on the system or just stopping WCG and moving to another project.
2. More importantly it will start reporting completed tasks immediately rather than whenever the client is set to update (usually the "store at least X days of work" setting in Computing Preferences)

You can use the normal BOINC Task Manager you just need to set the Preferences at the WCG web site to only process Microbiome tasks.

 

(Edit: if it's working now then don't mess with it though )

I was using regular BOINC manager for everything else, only when I was trying to add WCG it would just sit there "communicating with project" then fail which was strange. Well it's working now so it's all good

I ran into this issue on my desktop. Fell back on the CMD method of adding a project.

boinccmd --project_attach URL account_key

Worked perfectly. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 

Something to think about in the future.
