I need a good screw driver, any ideas?

Right now I have 2 cr*ppy non magnetic screw drivers and I am getting tired up of using them as they are too bulky or too short to fit in tight places in my computer.

Multiple choices would be nice.

 

Edit: I live on an island and therefore most companies and places don't ship to me due to the pandemic (eg. IFixIt)

I like ifixits kits as the manta kit has big drivers and small ones 🙂

I use the 64 bit ifixit kit for basically everything. For larger applications I have some Milwaukee and SnapOn drivers

For little screwdrivers, iFixit kit is good.

 

And for big screwdrivers, I use Facom kit, it's good too. But mines are not magnetic.

Snap-On stuff is damn expensive but the shit lasts forever its what i keep in my tool box in the garage. if you need small computer screwdrivers and such get the 100+ kit from ifixit, i love mine and it has driver for all kinds of stuff like my old N64 cartridge that needed the battery replaced.

I personally just got a cheap screwdriver set from Aliexpress you'll find many like them on Amazon and other websites. It definitely doesn't compare to the iFixit kits in quality. But it's really cheap and it has served me well for the past few months as I've taken apart a few consoles, oh and it comes with 98 bits.

You realize that many other brands of tools offer lifetime warranties as well?  But then again, if you need a lifetime warranty on a screw driver to use on electronics, you're doing something very wrong 🙂

true on both accounts. however, having a tool that needs to be returned for warranty every couple of months because its a POS (harbor freight) vs a quality tool that even when used as a prybar wont break is the reason people buy snap on and craftsman tools. they have the lifetime warranty but its extremely rarely needed.

And yes for PC building you can use any old crap drivers from Ace hardware or Walmart but if you're going to buy a tool why not buy a high quality lifetime lasting tool? I have several tools that my grandfather bought when he was younger that are good as new today.

I agree with your points, I use Kobalt at home for working on the house and the cars.  But for a PC?  I grab what's in the junk drawer, do my thing, and move on.

 

For a PC, you don't need iFixit's set you won't use but 10% of.

OP, what bits will you use?
If just Phillips or flathead, cheap magnetic screwdrivers will do.

If you need triwing, hex, Torx (maybe security), bolt bits, or similar, an iFixit or similar is for you. I have a Mako kit and I love it.

Not overpriced and not a "tech gimmick". Myself and many, many others can vouch for the quality of their tools, excellent warranty, and the company itself is one that I feel very good about supporting.

My personal strategy with tools is just to go to a store and buy them. Any hardware store will sell an acceptable screwdriver, there's really no need to overcomplicate this.

Tried and tested industry brands, there’s tons.

 

In the UK lots of guys I work/worked with (Automation) use brand such as: Facom, klein, wera, wiha, Bahco, Bondhus etc.. 

 

I’ve never tried ifixit as to me it’s just a YouTube/internet brand, but it gets good reviews so probably worth a shot

iFixIt bits are good quality, great for the price. I have one of their small kits and they fit fasteners precisely every time. I've never had one round out or strip a fastener. Snap-on stuff is nice but it's overkill and unless you have a friend who works in a shop with a tool truck coming by then the warranty is about useless. Just get a good name brand set of the basic P1, P2, and 2 flat blade sizes. But here's a tip, get some long ones. It's really nice to have your hands away from stuff so you can see what you're doing and have room to turn screws.

Many other brands than iFixit may be cheaper with comparable or bring better quality to the table, but I did not find a THAT complete toolkit specialised towards consumer electronics repair. Many other sets are targeted at construction, electricians, device mechanics or plain old standard PC building. 

Even though, I do not own an iPhone, I still consider one (especially because Android was never my favourite OS) and having a toolkit bringing Pentalobe in different sizes is a big plus. I would have loved to buy a toolkit from PB Swiss Tools - but these do not have a set that is THAT complete for my use case.

 

It depends on what one expects to do - if you never expect to open a phone, tablet or notebook, you will not need it. 

 

From my former work as a laboratory assistant in a combustion engine lab, I can tell that cheap tools are definitely not worth it. I had screwdrivers that looked completely mangled after tightening only two screws.

Worse than mangling the tool is mangling the fastener, especially if it didn't come out or you'll need to remove it in the future.

Can't help but agree with this and TBH, the Snap-On guy (At least every one of them in my experience) will give you a hard time over honoring the warranty.
Also the most expensive set you can get too.

If you need that tier of tool quality Mac is just as good but cheaper.  Also from my experience, in contrast to the Snap-On guys I've had to deal with, the Mac guys honor their warranty straightup as long as it's not an obvious case of abuse.

Snap-On IS a high quality tool but even with that I can't justify the ridiculous prices they have, esp when you can get the same quality level of tool for a cheaper price.
I've been a mech (Now retired) for 35+ years to know all that and although I do have a few Snap-On pieces, the majority is either Mac, Blackhawk, Craftsman ( The old, good stuff) or even Cornwell.

If you're only working on a desktop, 99% of what you do will be covered by a cheap screwdriver, or two.  (One normal size, one short one.)

If magnetic is an issue?  You can spend a couple bucks and buy a screwdriver magnetizer.

If you need more bits for laptops or other small things?  iFixit.
