Rx 470 or Gtx 970 or Gtx 1060 6gb

iCoNrant

Rx 470 4gb = $139

Gtx 970 4gb = $173

Gtx 1060 6gb = $222 (no luck, he sold for $247 to someone else)

They are used and the 570 and 580 seller denied my offering so that sad.

Which one I should get?

Unless youre getting that 470 as an 8GB version (for some reason), this is my pick. Not much reason to get less VRAM for basically the same performance level when overclocked.

Kinda not.

I hope you can negotiate that 1060 down to 190$.

RX 470 ofc.

970 is only worth considering if you need video encoding a lot. It has the least VRAM (3.5gb fast and 0.5gb slow) and speed is on par with the cheaper 470.

1060 6GB price is inflated too much. I honestly dont understand why people grip on more VRAM so much. I never managed to run settings that use more than 4GB of memory on my 1060 6GB (mobile yes, but the desktop one is not that much faster) and RX 470 4GB while mantaining over 60fps

970 vram cut down? Or they separate in different chip?

yep, it was a big controversy back then. And iirc there's no good way to reverse it.

Not to mention that if you reach the VRAM limit - the solution is to lower the texture settings.

The way Nvidia cut the GTX 980's GPU down effectively removed normal access to the last 0.5GB, meaning it can't be accessed at the same time as the other 3.5GB and at a far lower speed. It depends on the game though if you'll see any slowdowns.

The GTX 970 generally does better in DirectX 11 games, the RX 470 in Vulkan and DIrectX 12. With some exceptions of course.
