How do you shoot video on the Pentax *ist DL

I have a Pentax ist DL and it has in the menu settings video recording options but I just don't know how to shoot video on it, I cannot find any guides on how to shoot video on it. Can anyone help me?

I'm new to Photography but enjoy it. I also run a Pentax *ist-DL mainly with a 18-55mm lens. I also have a 50-200 mm Pentax lens, and a Pentax 50 lens that is all it says.

Yeah I know, but I cannot afford a new camera and wanted to get into basic photography, I had this one lying around the house.

should be fine for that but the camera is listed as being a stills camera not a camcorder.

I was published in Vogue Italia using a 20 year old dSLR (a Canon 10D) so don't sweat the age of the system

Congrats man on making is into Vouge, and yeah I know I shouldn't grope over it being an older camera.

The setting you saw were probably for (analog) video output (back when jacking your camera into the VCR aux-in to review stills was apparently the cool thing to do).

Yeah, probably it does have a video out port.

first truely good response I've seen on thjs forum relating to camera work

do you have a portfolio where I could see some samples of your work.  I'm not into fetish shots but I have a friend who owns a collection of harleys and indians and a few model friends who has expressed interest in doing some risque goth biker punk style but not overtly sexual or erotic shots and want to get a few mroe ideas of what we can do

yeah what would i know about cameras or cinematography compared to you tech people.  i've only done this work for nearly 20 years, won a few awards, worked in over a dozen different countries and a few multi million dollar projects

as far as i know the first photo camera like a dslr to include video recording is the nikon d90 which was released around 2008 or 2009  i'm surprised to hear that a camera older than the d90 has video options in the menu.  can you share a screen shot or photo of the menu?

I looked more closely at it and it says rec. mode and it has the settings for the recorded pixels (I think it's talking about the quality of the pictures) but sure I'll share a pic. sorry about the blur

thanks, this menu isn;t about video.  it's about tweaking the quality of the image and how the sensor acquires the image.  every photo camera I've seen has something like this in one way or another, affecting how the camera processes the image internally

that's not a bad composition.  i wouldn't say it was perfect as it has a lot of room for improvment, but it's astetically pleasing how you've captured a curvy flow of the flowers from bottom left to top rigth.  simple and pleasing to the eyes

ways to improve could be maybe a shallower depth of field to defocus from a potentially distracting background
maybe more closeup of a fewer number of blossoms
maybe not cutting off the blossoms against corners and edges of the frame

and of couse technically speaking the exposure and noise of the image needs improvement

I do not, since my work is on the....esoteric side, and I can't be certain who looks at it. A lot of my work is for people with unusual kinks, and meant for private work, sorry. For the record, 99% of my work is in the studio, where I can control lighting, etc.

We can discuss in private if you wish, some options
