Need Help with crashing PC

Hi guys,

I recently updated my Motherboard and CPU, however its only giving crashing on me all the time!

Hardware overview:
- Asus RPG STROX Z590-E Gaming WiFi (NEW)
- I9-11900K (NEW)
- WD Black sn850 1TB m.2 (NEW) (installed OS)
- Corsair 850 Watt supply
- Samsung NVME SSD 1TB
- MSI 2080TI
- Noctua NH-D15 cooler

I am getting some weird errors/crashes:

  • I use digital out for my headphone after a few minutes/hours it just suddenly sends out insane noise and no audio output. When i mute the PC it goes away.
  • The PC randomly crashes. Sometimes my pc just freezes, sometimes the screen turns black and the fans spin up.
  • I get a BSOD with the message: "CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT", i read it is oc related. However i turned all the automatic OC off and am running everything on default settings (as far as i know)

Does someone have any clue what i can do to solve this?

Thanks!

Turn off XMP if you have it on.

Also, upload all the crash dump files here, I can deconstruct them and see what's going on

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

I tried as good as I can. My pc felt a bit hot and i added some more case fans and altered the fan curve to have a bit more flow. I think my temps are maxed somewhere in the high 70s for the CPU and low 80s for my GPU.

However, i am not able to check the temps when the PC crashes.

You can run real-time CPU and GPU temps with CoreTemp and GPUTemp. Good programs to have

I set XMP to XMP II. I can choose between: Auto, XMP and XMP II

I found the memory.dmp file but its 2GB. Not sure if that is what you meant?

Ok, your system is set to dump the whole crash file, that's too much info to upload here. You can set that back to mini crash dumps, by following this guide:

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5560-configure-windows-10-create-minidump-bsod.html (you want the option for small memory dump)

As to XMP, set it to Auto if there is no option to turn it  off.

I set the XMP to auto. I also noticed theres a Manual version.

I did the Cinebench multicore benchmark and its working, then i start civ 6 and as soon as i loaded the game the computer just restarted, no warning just instant restart.

I tried a few options:

1. Turn XMP to Auto: start CIV 6 after just 1 round pc crashes

2. Turn XMP to manual: start CIV 6 after just 1 round pc crashes

3. Turn XMP to XMP II: start CIV 6 after just 1 round pc crashes

A re-start with no warning is *typically* a sign of a failing power supply, but not always, let me look through the crash dump and get back to you on what I see happening.

Ok, what I"m going to do, is post some relevant details from the crash dump, and then I will post my thoughts at the end.

___

CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT (101)
An expected clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor in an
MP system within the allocated interval. This indicates that the specified
processor is hung and not processing interrupts.
Arguments:
Arg1: 000000000000000c, Clock interrupt time out interval in nominal clock ticks.
Arg2: 0000000000000000, 0.
Arg3: ffffc88196fe3180, The PRCB address of the hung processor.
Arg4: 0000000000000007, The index of the hung processor.

BUGCHECK_CODE:  101

BUGCHECK_P1: c

BUGCHECK_P2: 0

BUGCHECK_P3: ffffc88196fe3180

BUGCHECK_P4: 7

FAULTING_PROCESSOR: 7
PROCESS_NAME:  NoiseCanceling

FAILURE_BUCKET_ID:  CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT_INVALID_CONTEXT_nt!KeAccumulateTicks

____

This is a tricky one. What you have is one of your cores was working on something (NoiseCanceling) when it expected data, didn't get it (or didn't get it right), and freaked out.

Without more crash dumps it'll be tricky to say exactly what the problem is, but offhand, I'd say an audio driver, or audio-related package (headphone software perhaps?) needs to be updated.

Thats some very usefull information!

That explains maybe why my headset sometimes just gets the most insane amount of noise and i have to switch to my analog output.

I have removed the ASUS AI noise canceling. Lets hope this will fix the issue.

I have uploaded the most recent crash, which happened a few minutes ago.

Thanks for the help so far!

Ok, this is less good news.

The crash is *exactly* the same as the other one, except.....

it's crashing on the system file itself.

...which means:

(1) Badly corrupted OS

(2) Badly out of date drivers (culprit: chipset/mobo drivers)

(3) An Overclocking gone wrong which

(4) Damaged the CPU

Mhh, what would you suggest i do? I am pretty sure my drivers are up to date. I reinstalled windows when i got the new mobo.

I never changed anything to the default settings.. other than the asus default ai overclock settings.

I really hope my CPU isnt damaged though. Lets keep fingers crossed and see if it crashes again.

When you re-installed Windows, did you accept the drivers that Windows found, or did you go to the mobo's website and download the latest?

I downloaded ASUS armoury crate and installed the drivers via that way.

Ok, one thing we can do, but it's involved....

Download a LiveUSB install of something like Linux Mint (very Windows-like) and play with it for a bit. If the system crashes, then you have bad hardware. If it behaves nicely, then it's something in Windows.

Linux Mint is quite easy to use, and has Steam client, so you can play some games and stress your system, to see what happens.

I (or others) can walk you through setting this up on a USB stick if you need help.

Same, except Explorer.exe crashed (the desktop)

You can test your RAM with MemTest86, but I do not suspect that. Bad RAM will manifest itself with crash dumps that are all over the map, yours are very identical.

I ended up doing a stress test on both my CPU and GPU at the same time with Furmax and prime95 for about half an hour and also played civ for about an hour and all still is working flawless. I did change some more settings in the BIOS to ensure default stress on the CPU instead of the ASUS optimized stuff.

I will keep giving some load on the system to see if i can get a error again.

I have a little update, i contacted the vendor and they send me a new motherboard. The issue has since been solved.

However my audio still gets incredibly noisy after about half an hour. It looks like a firmware/software issue but im not sure how to fix it.

thanks for the help guys!
