Ip is different depending on where I look

Helpful Tech Witch

Networking sucks.

Acording to ipconfig, im ipv4 adress is 192.168.xx.xxx so thats what i used for the port i have for Minecraft

but acording to portchecktool.com and whatismyipadress.com its162.255.xx.xxx

so should I use that for forwarding th port?

What the hell is happening?

oh god what will my highschool networking class be like?

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

That's your local IP on your own network.

That's your public IP, as in the one that the internet sees from your router.

You local one, what will happen is that something will try to hit your public 162.255.xx.xxx ip at some port, and through port forwarding you'll redirect this request from your router to your 192.168.xx.xxx device in your own netowork.

Try to google for NAT, your should get a better understanding about how that kind of stuff works.

Ok. One more thing.

I have the internal and external port both 25565, that what I want correct? (It's the one Minecraft server is looking for).

The tp link app says it should be 1-65535 for international, but xx-xx or xx for external. What does that mean?

I could use some help with this!

I have a tplink deco system attached to my modem or whatever it it for fiber.

In the app set to forward the 192.168.xx.xxx ip on port 25565.

Do I need to do something on the main modemy thingy?

I could use some help with this!

If your minecraft server is running at port 25565 in your PC, and other people to connect to your router through that same port on your router, then yes.

Did you mean "internal"? Anyhow, 65535 is the maximum port number since it's only a 16-bit unsigned number.

I don't know what you meant here, a screenshot for some context would help.

Apparently that breaks everything.

The local ip needs to be the ip of the computer the Mc server is on. As long as you do that and port 25565 is open u're good to go. Outside of assigning the server a permanent LAN ip. Otherwise your LAN ip will change with every reboot.
