Upgrading to 1440p, or should I?

SamHF

I've recently put together a new system and got lucky and managed to get a RTX 3070 FE.

I've been rocking a benq xl2411z for my entire gaming career. It was perfect back when I used to play fps games competitively, such as CSGO.
However since I spent a good amount on a new system and the fact the RTX 3070 FE has displayport, it will not work with monitor any more. I was forced to buy an adapter in hope it will hold up the 144hz but it was hit or miss, the adapter sucks. I purchased the DELL BIZLINK DISPLAYPORT to DVI-D DUAL and when 144hz is selected text and everything seems extremely blurry, this can be somewhat fixed when I change to 120hz. So the adapter is not good enough right?

I have the funds to upgrade to a new monitor but I'm kind of scared to take the leap to 1440p. It sounds stupid but I've been using 1920x1080 for so long I'm worried if I was to get a 1440p display I won't be able to play fps games competitively like I would on my old display. What are your thoughts on a 1440p and still being able to game at a competitive level?

I've done some research and I'm finding it difficult to actually find a monitor during this current year which will be amazing. People told me it's about luck nowadays, the monitor I will buy can be broken or something straight out the box, is that true?

Here are some monitors I found, do you guys have anything better? Which of these should I go for?

I love 1440p 144hz. I think 4k60 is worse and unless all you do is compete in esports 240hz+ 1080p is not enough resolution
I'm running an LG 27GL850 and its great. even with my RX580 in games where it matters I can get 144fps.

its really just between the asus and the LG, asus with a VA is going to have better contrast but worse colors.

Good luck, Have fun, Build PC, and have a last gen console for use once a year. I should answer most of the time between 9 to 3 PST

What about the DELL Alienware one. It looks like a beast. Would my specs even be able to use a 1440p 240hz monitor?

What is better, colours or contrast? I've been using 1920x1080 my entire life. This BenQ monitor is actually awful, I just want beautiful visuals but be able to play games competitively again.

its 2x the price. in some games you would be able to, a highly rated option for 1440p 240hz is the samsung g7
I like better colors but I also edit photos and videos

Ok so the LG one seems to be a winner, but which one?

There are two versions right?

Got a question. If I was to get a 165hz monitor can I just lower the hz to 144 if i can't reach that high. because i will like to play competitive games such as csgo and i don't mind paying a little extra to benefit from the 165hz from playing those specific games. however modern games i probs won't get that much fps so it's good to just lower the refresh rate when playing that specific game?

i was looking at this monitor, thoughts? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07VP9GS1Q?tag=rtings-u-mn-21&ie=UTF8
