The 4 extra cables are for voltage sense wires. They read the voltage at the end of the cable and report back to the PSU.

Which PSU is it? It's becoming more and more common on high end PSUs these days, but there's a blog from Corsair explaining it. https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/blog/Explanation-of-RMi-New-Type-4-Cables

The 24-pin of the Type 4 cable set also has a unique feature not implemented in the standard Type 3 cables. There are a total of 28-pins where the cable plugs into the PSU's modular interface, instead of the usual 24-pins. The extra four pins are "sense wires". While a +3.3V sense is part of the ATX standard and is found on most PSUs, it is not often implemented. The RMi not only utilizes the +3.3V sense on the ATX connector, but also utilizes an additional +12V sense and +5V sense. These sense wires read the voltages at the load (the end of the cable) and can increase voltage automatically if voltages drop.

28pin side goes to.the PSU? There's.no standard on what the end on the PSU must be, only the end going towards the motherboard.

... Which model PSU do you have? Does the cable kit have any text on the connectors on the PSU side?

Different power supplies use different cables, you need to use a set of cables that are compatible with that specific model. Even models within the same brand can use different cables.

Are you buying a new RM850 or buying a 2nd hand old RM850 (yellow label) from a few years ago? They use different cables.

The RM650x uses Corsair Type 4 cables, which that blog post I linked to before was about. The old Corsair RM PSUs use Type 3 cables which use a different motherboard connector with a 24 pin connector on the PSU side. The new RM units use type 4 with 28 pins for the motherboard connector (two connectors on the PSU side, 10 pin connector + 14 pin connector).

TLDR; If it's a new RM unit the cables will work.

I’m not buying a used psu I’m not crazy I’m getting a brand new rm850

If you already had the PSU in front of you, you wouldn't be asking this question.  😄

Is it just the stock cables that come with the power supply plus a set of extensions? I thought you had bought a set of individually sleeved custom cables.

New PSUs come with cables. €45 for a set of cable extensions seems pretty steep.

That custom cable kit looks to be on the shorter side. 30cm maybe? Definitely not 60cm. Maybe the original owner was using in a small form factor case but threw in the extensions because the cables wouldn't be long enough in normal cases?

Kinda defeats the purpose of custom sleeved cables if you're adding extensions on the end though. May as well just use the stock cables that come included with the PSU.

No.  Not 60cm.  But 300mm custom cables + 300mm extensions = 600mm.

I’m gonna use it in a nzxt h210 so it will be fine
