RTX 3060 or RTX 2060

Go to solution Solved by FRD,

Best to go with the cheapest option. The 2060 is fine and runs good with a 3700X. The only thing that's not that great about that prebuilt is the 380W PSU, the wattage is tight for the prebuild. If you want to upgrade later you will need a bigger PSU as well.

And like said, 16gb ram is probably good to have, but that's easy to upgrade.

Hi guys. Can anyone suggest me whether I should buy a new RTX 2060 instead of the RTX 3060. I know 3060 performs better than the previous one but considering the availability of the RTX 3060 and the price do you think it would be better to buy the 2060. I am thinking of buying a pre-built PC from Lenovo having specs as:

  • Ryzen 7 3700X
  • 8GB RAM
  • 1TB Hdd + 256GB m.2 ssd
  • RTX 2060 CD 6GB
  • 380W PSU

This option helps me to save $228 (approx) instead of the custom RTX 3060 build where I have to pay $744 only for the RTX 3060 and the processor I am getting there is Ryzen 5 3600. If you guys can suggest something on this.

You only gain a little in CPU bound title and lose a lot of creature comforts of a 3060, and with that sort of PSU, unless its standard ATX sized, you wont have anything to upgrade it from. I would go for waiting until 3060 price normalize, but if you need a PC now, it can be a good idea.

make sure you have 16gb of ram, and see if i5 11400 is an option for about the same price, or cheaper.

or just go with the cheaper option.

I have a prebuilt from CyberPower with the 3700x and RTX 2600 (Gigabyte OC'd +175 Core/+1100 Memory) Runs great. I began gaming long before 60 FPS was the norm, hell most times I was lucky to even get 30. I dont know what your plans are for your rig, but the 2060 is fine for the games I play. I would as well suggest a min of 16GB of ram. I have 16GB and never even come close to using it all.

Im no Tech Guru by any means, most of the stuff I do know now days comes from YouTube and its sad that most Tubers focus on the higher end of the spectrum than the low to mid range for those of us on fixed income, such as myself being disable after having brain surgery.

Go what you can afford and upgrade later when things stabilize in the market.
