First time to have a PC

Other details: I've been on my laptop my whole adult life and been saving some side money to build my first pc. (Been watching tech videos my whole life) I just want to make sure I'm doing this right, especially since I know amd chips might need an update to support the 3080. I know pc parts are hard to get but I'm trying on BB. Thanks for any and all advice. I'll be using my oled TV until I can save up enough for an all around good monitor (g7). Another important thing I'm looking between is air or water cooling. I want my system to be relatively quiet.

Why do you think you need a 12-core processor?  Get lower latency RAM, 16 or 14.  Should be similar pricing.  That SSD is expensive, there are much cheaper options from Crucial and WD.  

 

You won't get a 3080 for $799, that's your biggest hurdle and you may have to wait a while for ANY video card that doesn't have you bent over and crying.

 

Also do you live near a Microcenter?

I completely missed that line, my bad.   Tho a 5800X may be plenty, depending budget. 

 

Then you may want to look at the PRO line of SSD's by Samsung for the large files you'll be using.

Sadly I do not live close enough to a Mocrocenter for it to be helpful. I've been very close to getting the 3080fe on BB for 799, but until I have that and the cpu I will not be purchasing any other parts. I'll look more into the RAM and SSD. I forgot I'm also looking between water cooling and air cooling because I want a pretty quiet system

If you can get a 3080 (any style) at Best Buy for $799, BUY IT.  As many as you can.

I've used both, and they are comparable for sound.  Using a good case helps of course, the Define R6 is more of a quiet case vs airflow monster.

 

Water cooling (AIO) does have issues with the fans ramping up when a peak load hits, but normally they're quieter than my game volume or the TV/Audio I am listening to in the background.  

 

With the level of system you're building, I would go with a 360mm AIO for aesthetics and cooling.  I'm not a huge fan of a massive CPU cooler anymore.  That's my bias though.
