High-pich sound from PSU when moving mouse

Go to solution Solved by FRD,

Yep, it is coilwhine. Usually you can't really fix it, some people RMA it and get it replaced.

Also, I'm sorry but the PSU you chose is not a good one. The rest of your parts are good, but the PSU is in Tier E according to the list here.

If possible try to send it back and get a better one. Now I would not recommend upgrading or using a good GPU in combination with this PSU.

When I move my mouse around in Windows my PSU emits a high piched sound. This doesnt happen when the mouse isnt being moved, when using the mouse in the BIOS or when using a diferent mouse

  • Windows 10
  • Asus TUF B560-PLUS WIFI
  • Intel I5 11400
  • Intel UHD 730
  • 8x2GB Corsair Vengeance 3200mhz
  • Crucial P2 1TB
  • Nox Urano VX650 (650W 80+ Bronze)
  • Mouse: SteelSeries Rival 3

Everything on the system is brand new

Edit: This aparently doesnt happen when stressing my CPU so I guess it only happens when the PSU is underutilized

Ok I know I marked this as solved but I changed the PSU to a Corsair CX550M (Tier B) and this still happens. Could this be the mouse or do PSUs just make this noise when it is very underutilized?

Is your household current stable?

Does it make a noise with the monitor turned off?

Do you have another display or cable to try?

Yes, and with the HDMI unpluged

I have another cable but I cant test it rn I'll try tommorow

PS The noise is reduced when I set my polling rate to 125hz

Also the noise stops when I stress my CPU or when I disable turboboosting

Hmmm, seems like a grounding issue on the board maybe? Or something on the board whining.  Usually has to do with power delivery.  Your fans are all good?

I had this issue before I had installed the fans. The noise is 100% coming from my PSU not from something on the board
