Possible Pixel 5 Fingerprint Scanner Defect

So. I went to unlock my phone last night and lo and behold, it wouldn't register the touch. I looked at the scanner, expecting it to be dirty, and I noticed that there was what looked like a paint chip on my finger. 

 

Scanner hasn't worked since and after talking to a Google-Approved repair company, it seems like this becoming somewhat common for Pixel 5's.
