Displayport not allowing 1440p at 144 Hz ?

Hi.

 

I just bought 3 x Asus TUF VG32VQ monitors for a sim-racing setup. I planned to run 2 of them over displayport and 1 of them over HDMI as I dont have enough free displayport ports on my RTX 3080 as I have a Samsung CRG9 connected as well for desktop use when Im not racing.

 

I was kinda expecting the HDMI to cause me a few headaches, but to my surprise its the 2 monitors connected with displayport cables that are acting up. Both of them refuses to run higher than 60 Hz at 1440p. But the HDMI one has no problem letting me select 144 Hz.

 

When I then try to setup Nvidia surround to run my racing games it wont allow me to use 1440p as height. It will only let me select 1080 as height. 

 

What is going on. I had to buy new cables as the stock ones are too short for the way my rig is setup. The cables are 4k 60hz certified so I kinda expected them to be able to run 1440p at more than 60 Hz. Also from what I can gather online 1440p at 144 Hz should be no problem even for displayport 1.2. So im kinda at a loss here.

 

I tried using displayport for all 3 screens, but then all of them were stuck at 60 Hz. And still only allow 1080 in nvidia surround.

@CVdk I might have missreaded your issue but you did try to use display on your main monitor and hdmi on the other 2?

I have tried all sort of combos (my GPU only have 1 HDMI and 3 x displayport) but no matter what i do the displays i use displayport cables on are stuck at 60 Hz.

Im sorry the webpage is in Danish. I bought 3 of these displayport cables. Not a lot of specs on the displayport cable but I thought a 4k 60Hz certified cable would be at least displayport 1.2 and then able to carry 1440p 144 hz. I cant select RGB mode either, they are stuck aty ycbcr 422 when on displayport. But full RGB on HDMI.

It doesn't look like it's actually certified, it just lists 4K 60 Hz in the specifications. Cable manufacturers commonly lie about their capabilities. It needs to have an official VESA certification for HBR2 speed to handle 1440p 144 Hz. DisplayPort cables aren't certified by version numbers or resolutions.

Ahh i see. Stupid me just saw the 4k 60 hz and thought I was good.

 

First ill try and isolate the cables I have from all other cables that could produce interference. And if that doesnt work i guess i have to get some actually certified cables.

Just an update. The store i bought the cables from vame to the conclusion that its the length of 5 meters that is the issue. They linked me some 8k 60hz displayport 1.4 cables and claimed they would work at 5 meter lengths for 1440p 144 hz. So giving it a shot.

 

Im still amazed though that a cheap 10 dollar HDMI cable was capable of doing 1440p 144hz full rgb at 5 meters.
