MSI afterburner temp limit not working - i need a program which can shut of my pc at a defined temperaturee

xexehe

So, i'm mining etherum on my 1660 super with 68% power limit and 65 degree c temp limit. The problem is, when i change the power limit to 100, it completely ignores the temp limit, goes up to over 75 c. I don't think there is any fix to this so I think I need a program that can turn off my pc if for example the fans fail. I've tried using speedfan but the gui is extremely confusing. Maybe i should setup a custom fab curve, though i don't know how to. Any ideas?

Afterburner "temp limit" is what allows your GPU to boost or not. It will not shutdown the computer when that threshold is reached. AFAIR, that shutdown when fan failure is detected is not a feature on commercial devices. Either set up a higher fan speed or use a more aggressive fan curve.

But shouldm't it throttle the gpu?

Depends, if it is actually boosting, yes (which is usually not the case while mining, especially on stock bios cards) if not, your GPU will run at its stock speeds until it reaches tjmax and then start to throttle. Easiest way to confirm that would be to check GPU clocks in games, if its higher than while mining then you would know its not boosting.

The card will keep itself alive, as long as the OS and drivers are working properly.

You could run your card at 95°C for an extended period of time, and it wouldn't immediately kill the card.

What you can do to keep your temps lower is to drop your core clock farther.

My Vega 64 runs up into the 80°C range using stock clocks, but if I drop the core from 1580mhz down to 1000mhz, I can mine on it for extended periods and the temp stays under 65°C. This is for Ethereum mining.

I have stopped mining on the Vega though because I'm having memory stability problems, and I don't want to kill this card. >_> I can't get the Memory clock over 1075mhz without problems, and I think it's a warning sign not to push the card too much... The problems occur in gaming (artifacting), though the Ethereum hashrate drops as well.

Anyway... Unless your card turns into a rocketship at 75°, I'd just leave it be personally.

set up a custom frequency/voltage curve which is a flat line, that basically limits the voltage to around 0.7V. this way, your card stays cool and mining performance isn't affected, since it's mostly memory driven.

the settings I use on my gigabyte 1660:
