Speedtest shows decent speeds, but downloads are slow

When I do a speedtest, it shows around 4-5 Mbps download and 7-8 Mbps upload but when I am downloading a game from steam it is about 700 kbps download. I am using a WiFi to lan adapter (similar picture attached) because my router is downstairs and I have no way of plugging my computer directly into the router. How could this issue be resolved?

Speedtest.net reports speeds in Mb, which stands for Megabit.

Steam reports speeds in MB, which stands for Megabyte.

 

1 byte consists of 8 bits, so 1MB = 8Mb, or in your case it's 4-5Mb = 0.5 - 0.7MB/s (500 - 700KB/s).

The speeds you're getting between the test and Steam download line up, it's just a different way of representing the numbers.

700KB/s is about 5mbps.

So that's normal.
