I've already been memeing this hard since it's not gonna work at all.

That's possible, but would it really be much of a problem if someone were to say "trigger" and it got incorrectly bleeped? How many other words fit in "pull the ______" or "my ______ finger is itchy"?

Wow! How did I last gaming online since the late 90s without this tool? Is developing a good mental filter too hard to ask now there is no switch to torn off things that upset you in the real world.

i dont understand people's hostile reactions to this. like sure i personally doubt it would be that effective but other than that whats wrong with it? do you guys think people should be forced to listen to people saying racist shit?

Because it’s just a marketing stunt and data farming tool. You’re better off just muting anybody saying hateful shit, and reporting them if possible.

Honestly not surprised. Lot's of people have the idea that muting or ideas like this make you "weak" or "woke" or some random thing. Maybe I don't like hearing racial slurs. Not doing anything isn't going to help and an even more ridiculous take is that racial slurs aren't a problem at all.

 

If some streamer came up with their own implementation or some other company with a better track record came up with similar software without the connotation of being bloat or spyware (if it was something open source or similar), people would still cry censorship or attack them for some perceive "weakness".

You said it yourself everyone knows what words are being censored so it's useless. Intel is coming off as a good guy promoting a more politically correct gaming community when in reality it's a small bandaid that actually does more harm than good.

Not to get political but you would think the factual evidence of someone looking at the sky themselves and seeing that it is in fact blue would be enough to make them realize they are wrong. But nope, so now we have people who think vaccines give you autism, the earth is flat, and anything related to the person who used to be the president of the US and illegitimate news.

 

As for the idea being reinforced let us say person X doesn't agree with policy Y (and this scenario takes place solely online). So when person X sees something favoring Y online they will dismiss it and try to avoid it in the future. Slowly they will gravitate towards users who agree with them and block those who don't. The algorithms on social media are made to suggest content you might like so over time you'll "discover" new content that only agrees with your original idea as you have interacting with only what you want to see or like. Since the internet can technically connect anyone from anywhere with an internet connection there is a preconceived bias that you are interacting with anyone from around the world when you are online. When in reality you're connected to servers closest to you, suggested local content from local run ad campaigns, or versions of websites for your country. Even though both you may go to Youtube.com the explore page will vary immensely. So someone might reference youtube.com and say how the explore page only favors Y but in another country the same exact youtube.com shows different results. You are both correct in the scenario but it would leads to conflicts as both parties may not know this.

I don't know the efficacy of something like this, but I'm always for tool that allow people to have a better experience, and if this let's someone enjoy a stream or gaming and it doesn't affect others, I'm for that.

That's the thing. Advertisers care. Terms of Service cares (but not that much.)

 

The problem is that machine learning never learns context either. There is no reason for people to say profanity at all, but some people enjoy profanity, and some streamers have no problem with it either. Some streamers who are streaming with friends use an entire vernacular that needs the context that they're friends or playing a specific game. It's the kind of profanity that is a problem. What excuse does one have for using nazi language on a stream?

 

The logical clue here is when someone invokes hateful language, they are in fact hateful people, not "joking", and if they don't take measures to remove that language from their vernacular, they're going to get de-platformed, either by people watching not feeling it's a joke (and hitting report), or by the terms of service, or the service opting to bury discoverability.

 

Social media networks have been flirting with shadow-banning users that do spammy things. It doesn't take much for the system to use the auto-caption feature to analyze the video for hate language and bury the video too. 

 

That just leaves live streams, which auto-captioning is not yet a standard thing on streams.

I have my doubts about how well the software will work. Like if I say to someone "great play you are the shit" will that get filtered out and they think I was insulting them? Toxicity in games is definitely a problem but I'm not sure this is the solution. Also some of these filters are for concepts that are a lot more abstract than I think the AI would be able to understand. 

Someone also pointed out that this would be nice for streamers if they want to bring on guests or have TTS donations enabled as an extra layer of security.

The fear - and I think it's quite a justified one tbh - is that if gamers think people can just opt out of hearing this kind of thing, they will believe that gives them license to be as hateful as they like.

 

The real problem here is the fact that some gamers are perpetrating hate and discrimination against minority groups. Trying to fix it by giving people an option to kinda maybe opt out of hearing it if they download an extra piece of third-party software is akin to fixing a leak in a water pipe by putting sticky tape over it.

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

I think this could work (I mean, if RTX Voice is that good, why couldn't this somehow manage to pull it off?) but it needs to do more than bleeping - it would need to advance, A LOT, and change the voice "on the fly" to something not offensive, or not so offensive. Bleeps are just bloody useless.

Also, there's no way in hell this is getting anywhere near my computer. This is gonna gather and send data back to Intel like there's no tomorrow. No thank you.

On the topic of efficacy, I don't see this as a viable solution for most online situations. We've moved towards intolerance of intolerance and this just makes people hide more about themselves. I'd rather people speak their mind so society can put them in their place.

I can only see this being viable for things like live streaming chat content with 3rd party participants (call-in/opinion type content), and even then you'd only enable a small number of these filters unless you want the novelty of being misunderstood by everyone since I highly doubt it's going to be woke enough. In most other cases, it would be preferable to let people say what they feel like saying.

If the English has to be such mine field of words you can't say, can we just give the international language title to Spanish or French
