HELP GPU WORTH IT? ROG Strix liquid cooled AMD Radeon RX 6900XT

Hello, LTT Community!

I have came across the option of buying a ROG Strix liquid cooled AMD Radeon RX 6900XT GPU for a crisp 1800 USD. Is it worth it or should I just wait and buy a smaller card in a year or so when the market has, hopefully, stabilized and I can get another card. I would be pairing it with a Ryzen 5 3600 and 16 gb of 3200 ddr4 Ram.

Is that card too much for my system and/or is the price too high?

Thanks again!

In my opinion no. With the current gpu climate , paying that much for a gpu is never worth it. You won't see 1800$ worth of performance or visuals from it , because it wasn't designed for that.

That is what I was thinking as well, it's just so sad. I have been wanting to upgrade my GPU for a while and cannot with cards going for as much as triple their MSRP. Even my old RX 580 is selling for over 400 dollars and that is almost double for what I paid for it and my card is almost 5 years old.

Any idea when the market will pan back out?

I'm of the opinion Q1/Q2 2022, though no one knows for sure.

I am currently annoyed at Apple for making a stupid incompatibility between their iMac G5 ALS 1.8 GHz and iMac G5 ALS 2 GHz logic board models.

820-1540-A, while the same form factor (and is 95% compatible) does not work interchangeably with 820-1747-A because one has pins and one has pin sockets.

Blarg.

It'll be roughly until the middle of next year was the last estimation I heard. The gpu market will not recover until ALL silicon production recovers

that's actually a killer deal in the current climate, i take it's not from an official retailer. In fact the price is almost too good to be true, make sure you are not getting scammed. rtx 3080 is 2500 and 3090 is 3200 last i checked.

The 6900xt strix was the first card i was looking at for a zen 3 build, since it's cheaper than the RTX cards.

What is too good to be true? The price of the RX 6900XT or the going rate of my current GPU, a Rx 580 for about 450?

The person selling the RX 6900XT for 1800 is a local man who owns a small PC shop, so semi legit.

the price of the 6900xt is too good to be true, the strix version retail on release was something like 1400usd already, if you can get it local for 1800...damn, there's alot of people willing to pay more for it.

So you're saying if I can acquire the card then I wouldn't be wasting a bunch of money on fake prices? How would it fair in my rig? Is it even worth adding it to my rig with the current setup? I was just looking at upgrading to a 20 or 30 series but that is impossible right now without shelling out atleast 2 grand is seems.

depends on what you define as a waste, for me a new gpu is never a waste if i can get it below ebay prices (well the 3090 is a bit...), the current gpu shortage likely won't fix itself for another 18-24months, so we are into next gen territory, now assuming in 2 years, the card you pay 1800usd for will likely still be worth 1000-1200, it's your call how much it's worth to game on it for that period of time.

As for pairing it with a 3600...there will be about a 10% bottleneck, but not nearly as bad as nvidia gpus, just use the 5600x+6800xt here for a rough estimate
