Zotac store seems to put a serious dent in mining performance when visited

When i visit the Zotac store i have noticed that if i happen to be mining also, my hashrate goes from around 40 to around 32.

Is this just me? Am i imagining  things?

I can visit best buys page, neweggs, and see next to no hit on mining.

Yet if i am watching Zotac's page, and have it actively open and up front, my hash rate drops about 15%.

All pages visit are the 30 series pages that list all they offer. Zotac's page is the smallest and shortest.

 

Any thoughts on this? 

They seem pro mining so i don't understand why they would want this to happen as a deterrent to miners.

Much confusion.

 

Ultimately, whatever, i don't care too much. But am curious what others thoughts are on why this happens.

not sure if this is a joke but... it just means their webpage are heavy on resources, doubt it's anything to do with anti-miner or anything

No joke.

And compared to listing all the 30 series on best buy and newegg, there is no comparison.

Best buy and newegg have considerably more listings, much more in regards to visuals being rendered.

Newegg has 92 listings, bestbuy has 55, zotac has 15.

I can watch a 4k youttube video and not drop 8Mh.

But sitting on this link, eats megahash's. 

At least in my case.

Yeah, so that site is likely coded like crap. 

Also, watching 4K video uses the dedicated video decoder block in the GPU, not much of the GPU core.

Nobody said there's no performance hit, only that if there's one it wouldn't be for the reason you mention.

Well if it uses 20% of your GPU that means 20% cannot be used for mining, and 20% of 40 MH/s is... 8 MH/s.

They probably have some complex visual effect, possibly poorly coded, or even a bug that just hogs the GPU.

No kidding something is going on somewhere.

I was hoping maybe someone else with mining software would be able to share an experience and have a conversation surrounding relevant information.

Guessing every guess and ultimately leaving it at magic does magic was not what i was looking for.

 

I don't mean to be offensive and i've tried to write this as nicely as possible while explaining myself.

I also realize that this alone will set people off, so whatever. *internetz*

For what it's worth, i am running nicehash in the background of a windows 10 box.

Check your browser's task manager, it reports GPU usage.

Check Windows task manager, it would show you if a weird process was running under that browser window.

 

Still can't see the site, same error, probably only accepts connections from the USA?

He's making valid points that can all be the culprit. I can go to Zotac's page and follow a couple of links to the general 3000 series page (https://www.zotac.com/page/zotac-gaming-geforce-rtx-30-series). There I find a very fancy page with complex animations and visiualisations. GPU usage is around 15-20% on that page, but it doesn't impact my hashrate. If I put my VPN in the US I can access your page and there I see spikes up to 30% GPU usage, which seem to correlate with scrolling. The console also warns about some CSS properties. Sorry, but I'm with @Kilrah that there probabaly is some residual, inefficient or not optimized code on that page that just likes GPUs.

Could load it with VPN as well (well at some point, it's down now so can't actually check the dev console...) and the scrolling blue COVID banner on top seems like a very likely suspect. Guess they render it full tilt at thousands of fps without a cap, and that would exactly be the type of thing someone's asked to slap together in the next hour and they don't really know what they're doing.

 

The whole site is pretty trash and it seems to be running from a raspberry pi given the performance too...

 

Reduces mining perf by about 10% here, chrome shows 2% GPU usage from 0.1 without that site open.

Back on track, nobody has said you are wrong, we both confirmed what you saw (high GPU usage and naturally an effect on hashrate because of that), and for our own reasons blame something that runs on that particular webpage. They even explained why video playback is easier.

 

 

 

Idling on that page I see 15% GPU usage on it, doubling to 30% when simply scrolling. The page looks simple enough and the only moving bit I see is that annoying low framerate marquee, so I also guess it's either that or some other invisible-to-us rendering of that page that causes unnecessary GPU load. The only person with the true answers is probably the one who developed that page/site or has the source.
