Awesome deal? Really considering buying this laptop that just appeared on Newegg.

Go to solution Solved by GoldForest,

Well, I bought the laptop.

Still considering on whether or not to buy the cooling pad, if not just to give the laptop better airflow.

I just found this awesome deal: ASUS ROG Strix G17 Gaming Laptop, 17.3" 144Hz FHD IPS Type Display, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070, Intel Core i7-10750H, 32GB DDR4, 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD, RGB Keyboard, Wi-Fi 6, Windows 10 Pro, G712LW-XS78 - Newegg.com

It has everything I want. At least 1 TB SSD, 32 gigs of memory and it's 17 inches.
Best part is it's on sale for $1600 bucks.

I don't like the gamer aesthetic and it looks thick as fuck, but other than that it's not bad.

Other than that it's really not that bad of a deal. Probably your best way to get a decently priced gaming machine IMO.

I don't mind thick, my current laptop is a thick laptop already. An old ASUS ROG G751JT-WH71(WX). I actually prefer the thick laptop. I've heard the new G17s can produce a lot of heat though, so I'm considering buying a cooling pad for the laptop as well.

As for the gamer aesthetic, I like it.

And yeah, I noticed that ASUS 30 series have been delayed, and I've been wanting a replacement laptop for a little while now. Thinking on settling for this puppy.

Hmmm. It would help with air flow though, and giving the laptop more room to breath, right?

All laptops produce an ungodly amount of heat though when packed with horsepower, Just the nature of the business.

Cheers, though $450 is a big premium for no extra performance.

100%, but it can be mitigated to a huge degree by undervolting components, running the fans at max, and using some kind of external cooling like OP suggested - even those cheap $2 aliexpress 'cooling pads' that are just a mesh stand with a fan or two - make a big difference.

Well, I bought the laptop.

Still considering on whether or not to buy the cooling pad, if not just to give the laptop better airflow.

I'd buy the cooling pad, it makes a prety big difference. Doesn't have to be expensive, it's literally just fans blowing at the laptop to cool it down. Mine was $5 and it lowers temps significantly.
