when building a mining rig, quadro or gaming GPU?

Hello, I'm in the process of falling down the ole "how to build a mining rig" rabbit hole and I'm learning a lot via youtube and google, but there's a question I haven't been able to get answered:

 

I were to build a mining rig, do I go for the traditional gaming GPUs or do I go for the quadro type GPUs and why?

whatever gives u the most hashrate per price and watt

doesn't matter what card it is

Typically people get gaming cards, instead of Quadro because they are just cheaper for a similar if not same performance level.

 

Of course it depends on the specific Quadro/GeForce/Radeon card(s) we're talking about, what price you're getting them for, etc.

Quadro tend to be way less profitable as they're quite power limited, but if you can find them DIRT cheap and have extra PCIe space.... hell why not???

 

I host a little discord community with 10 other guys all using Nicehash.
We've come up with this little formula for "acceptable GPU pricing" when buying used cards on this inflated market.

 

1) Go to the NH Calculator > https://www.nicehash.com/profitability-calculator
2) Find out daily profit for a card you're interested in (they have quadros on the list)
3) Follow this formula 
Profit x 180 = acceptable price

 

ROI being 6 months / 180 days

 

EG, a RX 580 8GB makes 2.47/day right now

2.47 x 180 = $444.6

 

So expect to find the RX 580 being scalped for around that price. Anything higher than that will take longer than 6 months to pay off.

MB: Gigabyte B450 I Aorus Pro WiFi

RAM: Kingston Fury Beast RGB 32GB (2x16GB) 3600mhz CL16 (1-to-1 Infinity Fabric enabled)

GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2080 Super

*bought for $200 CAD off a friend who needed an RTX 3080, price was my reward.

DISPLAY: 3x 20" AOC 1080p 60hz 4ms ,  32" RCA 1080p/60hz TV mounted above, all on a single arm.

It dosen’t really matter. Get the card with the best hash rate/price. Quadros are significantly more expensive because they have professional drivers, witch won’t help with minding.

My primary system: Core I7 10700k, 32 gb Trident Z RGB ram@3200mhz, EVGA GTX 970 SSC (will upgrade), NZXT N7 Z490 motherboard (Black), Samsung 970 Evo plus 1TB SSD, NZXT C850 PSU, Hyper 212 EVO cooler (getting new water cooler soon), NZXT H510i case. 

 

My secondary system: Core I7 4820k, 16 gb quad channel 1600mhz ram, GTX 780 reference, Asus PX79LE, SK Hynix GOLD s31 500gb SSD, some 10 yr old Cooler Master 750w psu, Hyper 212, old Cooler Master case.

 

Laptop: Lenovo l380 yoga I5 8250u, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd storage)
