Kickstarter Backers voice concerns over Oculus and Facebook.

true but you dont see chris roberts selling out to other companies. you see him having an involvement with the people who put good money forward to help a common cause. he didnt have to involve the community at all and could make a game to personally fit his agenda but he didnt. anyone who puts money forward for a company to help is an investor and should be treated like an investor because, these type of people are not customers.

This is precisely what people running Kickstarters count on: that you feel like an investor when in reality you're giving away money with absolutely no legal standing in case they want to just fuck you over. People need to stop donating to a kickstarter if somebody is serious about a project do a proper investment request, not a "gimme money and I'll deliver because...I promise! Look at this cool tshirts!" nonsense.

-snip-

The problem with Facebook is their pressured to pull in more revenue than they did the year before, or they'll lose investor momentum. The problem is Mark is struggling to do the next big thing to pull the company up and wow the public.

The guys young and not running his company at optimum efficiency for controlled growth.

Not for nothing he paid over 75% of the tab on Facebook stock: I doubt it will really be worth 1.6 billion for much longer.

backer, doner, investor. either way, I want my money back

I hear you, although being brutally honest, you have little in the way of legal resource against them.

I have no faith in OR until they can prove this is even remotely beneficial. As it is, Facebook is disturbing and I enjoy having little part in it.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Most Facebook games are not made by Facebook. Its just the platform. It'll be like blaming android for a bad android game.

And what is the Rift. It's a platform for games. And those games will be made by who. Yes we will get some games that support the rift but now that Facebook is involved in it we will be getting a whole bunch of facebook social games. Are you happy that anyone other then Occulus or Steam now owns the Rift and Occulus. Occulus should have kept it's integrity and independant or at least sold itself to someone a little more credible.

this is like EA purchasing Star Citizen.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves now ;3

We still don't know exactly what is going to happen with this whole thing. A year from now, people could be singing facebook/oculus' praises for working together to make something awesome.

...whereas if EA were to acquire Star Citizen, you could be pretty certain exactly what they would do with it.

(Also, damn you for putting such a grim scenario into my head =P)

I don't understand why people are already hating on Oculus Rift, maybe this will improve the Rift a lot. We'll just have to wait for any changes.

Edit: i dont want to argue but what ever, we'll see what happens

You crazy man. This is facebook we are talking about. I would have been happier if EA bought out the Rift. have you ever played a facebook game.

You talk as if Facebook actively develops said games ...

Facebook is a platform. Other developers put out those games for said platform.

Such a shit move by Oculus and completely ignoring the initial investors

I will never get anything related to Google or facebook so this kicks all my VR needs in the face.

Kickstarter 'backers' are not investors, they are donators. Kickstarter holds absolutely no responsibility for what happens to your money or the company you donate to, the risk is held solely by donator.

Everyone needs to quit crying. Sony, Razer and Valve are all going to be making VR.

Why would buy a company and it's device for $2 billion if it wasn't going to maximize it's money out of it. If Facebook left the device become what the Rift was meant to be there is no way they could make back that $2 billion investment. The only way for Facebook to make any amount of money from the rift is to paste adverts all over the games that you play through it. And yes I do know that facebook doesn't actively make games but they basically own all the facebook games that are on their service. $2 billion is a too much money for what they have gotten, I guess Facebook has a lot planned for the Rift and Occulus.
