Kickstarter Backers voice concerns over Oculus and Facebook.

Such a shit move by Oculus and completely ignoring the initial investors

 

I will never get anything related to Google or facebook so this kicks all my VR needs in the face.

 

This is why nobody should ever give money to any kickstarter project no matter how good you think it is and how many trustworthy persons are on it. Because basically, on kickstarter you're NOT an investor, you're just a stupid idiot that gave money to them no strings attached.

This can only be seen as a bad thing, if oculus needed more funding for anything, the community would support them to keep them away from companies like facebook. Facebook will have integration and it could make every game just another Farmville. Facebook is taking the payments now, and facebook is one of the worst customer service companies ever created at it's size.

I really doubt the community could fund them the amount that they need. 

We are talking hundreds of millions for custom hardware, the community is (at this point, used to be, I guess) very supportive, but not enough to get that sort of money.

At this point its all just speculation that Fbook for some reason would spend 2 billion and then drive it into the ground with ads and other crap.

I really doubt the community could fund them the amount that they need. 

We are talking hundreds of millions for custom hardware, the community is (at this point, used to be, I guess) very supportive, but not enough to get that sort of money.

 

I also doubt they didn't already damn well knew that they couldn't fund it with crowd funding, they just wanted to stay alive an on the limelight long enough to cash in and get the fuck out.

I get the fact about the users, just why are people assuming that they bought it to make 3D Farmville and stuff...

 

If they wanted that, they could have just developed it, or got someone else to. But they didn't they bought the actual hardware.

Them buying Oculus, to me, means that they think the future of social networks is around VR, and they don't want to miss out.

When you are crowdfunded, if you have a single sliver on integrity as a human being, an inkling of decency, then you'll strive to deliver a good product to those who believed in you, those who gave you money so that you could do what you wanted to do, no questions, no conditions.

 

I would ask the backers what they wanted since they are the investors. 

 

They are not investors, they are donators, completely different things. Basically, as a backer, you have no say nor control over the product being delivered unless the creator chooses to allow you to have that right.

Ncix uploaded a video saying facebook was leaving the development alone, but had the original plans in mind as well as their own iteration of plans I believe.

I'm not saying its a good or bad thing, people have the right to react the way they want to, to the news. Original Backers especially have the right to angry. 

 

Most people aren't scared Facebook will kill Oculus their scared facebook will taint it down the line. If Oculus ends up not going downhill then great, but if it does everyones fears will be confirmed. 

 

There are many valid points to why Facebook isn't a good company for buying VR. They don't have the best track record.

true but you dont see chris roberts selling out to other companies. you see him having an involvement with the people who put good money forward to help a common cause. he didnt have to involve the community at all and could make a game to personally fit his agenda but he didnt. anyone who puts money forward for a company to help is an investor and should be treated like an investor because, these type of people are not customers.

No a better analogy is that most xbox games are not made by Microsoft yet they're the ones who control the platform and try to implement crap like always online, force feed everybody a stupid fucking glorified webcam and want to charge a monthly subscription fee to do access services you already pay for like Netflix.

The same can be said about Facebook, true they don't make games themselves but they constantly degrade their privacy features, pull off bullshit like said privacy changes as opt out, and generally promote the pestering of their users by constant and never ending publicity on a broken system that allows people on third world countries to run "Like" sweatshops to increase publicity.

So yeah, it is a pretty fucking safe and educated guess to claim that they will continue to be greedy scumbags, business as usual.
