I can see MSI logic is raising prices. The retailers and scalpers are making a lot out of the shortage, I can see manufactures wanting their cut of the action.

But yeah, next year until things start getting back to normal. I guess we're all resigned to that by now.

The problem is MSI's and other AIB's prices are actually quite high as is.

The AIBs are already making more profit per card than they've almost ever done.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Old news, I was among the first to state that GPU prices will come back only by 2023, and only decrease by 2022.

The only good thing about this whole situation is that I can sell my 1070 for nearly what I paid for it FIVE YEARS AGO. Even my 7600k is selling for crazy money on ebay.

I wonder if sites like newegg giving priority to senior accounts with long order histories would circumvent bot accounts? I'm not a newegg og but I've got orders going back to 2011. Kinda want a 3080ti if the price isn't astronomical, but then again it may be worth it if I can sell my old stuff for a lot still.

Id say that a fair assessment of the situation. I think TSMC's new FAB comes online this year. Samsung said something about a new FAB in 2023 I think, here in the US.

Of course this is only if crypto stays as high as its been. Bitcoin seems to be staying between $50k and $60K, but you never know when the bubble will burst. And eventually it will.

I wonder when the 4000 series come out if miners will upgrade and dump 3000 series cards on eBay or something. Might at least bring the prices down a bit.

I’m seeing fulfilled sells of the 2 GB GTX 960 go for very close to the same price as I’d paid six years ago. If it weren’t for the fact that I use a 4K tv for a display (the iGPU can only output 4k30P), and I need something with enough power to run the CRT Royale shaders for emulation, I’d probably be quite tempted to sell, as I don’t really play anything modern.

I was running a PowerColor VEGA64 Red Devil in my main rig, a GB VEGA64 Gaming OC in my 2nd rig, and a Leadtek GTX 1080 in my HTPC.....and might have stuck with them.

But, my GB VEGA64 Gaming OC decided to up and die on me, actually, it didn't die per se, I can get to desktop and such, but the moment I start a game, it'd CTD. Same thing happened to its sibling (I had two GB VEGA64's), and it finally gave up the ghost (no signal to monitor). So, rightly or wrongly, I needed a new GPU....at least, that's what I'd told myself.

Given that I have three rigs and two effectively working GPU's, I was in need of one, and being the AMD guy I am, I decided on an XFX MERC319 RX 6900 XT (about 1175USD back then). Due to a mix up with my CC limit, I'd lowered mine since I was not traveling overseas, and it failed to pass. Amazon could have informed me of the issue, but they chose to pass my allotment to the next person and I was left high and dry. I was told by their support staff that I could always wait for the next shipment (whenever that might be as they couldn't gimme any sort of dateline), mentally said a big FU to Amazon (won't be buying anything from them for a long while!)

I managed to snag a local set Nitro+ RX 6900 XT (as opposed to imported or bought from Newegg, Amazon and other e-tailers as these do NOT have local warranty) which cost me about 1350USD on 2nd January. At that time, I'd believed it was a crazy amount for a GPU, roughly the same amount I'd paid for a Palit RTX 2080 Ti back when it was launched.

Still, looking at the mind numbing prices of GPU's now, was even told by some forum members in other forums that some RX 6700 XT's cost more than my Nitro+ RX 6900 XT! This is the new reality, all thanks to COVID-19 disrupting supply chains, those $%#@ miners and scalpers (I hold the last two with equal disdain).

As to MSI and other manufacturers raising the price of their GPU's, it comes as no surprise as demand, as of now, far outstrip supply, and given the worldwide shortage of chips, costs go up, giving the manufacturers a reason to raise their GPU prices (however flimsy the reason(s) might be.

Wasn't it MSI too a few months ago that already decided to have much higher prices on their cards than competitors in order to earn more profit? Not sure exactly, but I believe the Suprim models are part of this strategy. They want more profit before selling it to their suppliers, which is why they marked them up.

Something just occurred to me:

Back before this whole thing started and no new GPUs had been released yet there were a few leaks of prices and people looked at them and thought they were ridiculously high.  Way too high to sell.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

The thing is, the big three (MSI, Gigabyte, Asus....especially Asus) tend to charge higher prices for their cards. While I'd admit, having better coolers mounted and perhaps a custom board added to the costs, their prices are usually a fair bit higher than others.

Take for example, MSI/GB/Asus AMD GPU prices vs those from exclusive AIBs like PowerColor/XFX/Sapphire, not sure about other places, but in my neck of the woods, the big three command higher prices that their equivalent tiered AMD exclusive AIBs. Peeps gravitate towards the big three simply because they're perceived to be premium brands.

I don't get it, for me, I'd rather get cards from XFX/Sapphire/PowerColor, or cards from Palit/Leadtek/eVGA/etc IF I were looking at nVidia cards. For example, a Red Devil RX 6900 XT or a Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6900 XT can be had for less than a GB RX 6900 XT Gaming OC (which is a lower tiered cards compared to the Nitro+ and Red Devil). Same goes for nVidia cards from these big three.

This is why I'd never considered GPU's from the big three, and I'd rather stick with GPUs from exclusive AIBs like XFX/PowerColor/Sapphire (AMD) or Palit/eVGA/Leadtek/Colorful/etc (nVidia).

Agreed.

It sucks that it's happening, but I honestly can't really blame them for it.
