Determining if I should sell my graphics card

‘I’ bought a prebuilt for around $650 like 2 to 3 weeks ago it has since raised in price. (PC here)  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FPL6S4Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_TX5BK6W3V2YH4PG2QPA7 I am tempted to sell my 5500xt for a price that I will hate myself for. (400-600 usd) I want to know if I should do that and try to buy a graphics card from lttstore when they drop. I want to buy my friend who doesn’t have a pc at all a graphics card so he can get off xbox and I can use my pc for more than 2 hours before having to go to play with him.

If you're selling your graphics card to buy your friend a graphics card then why not just give your friend the existing graphics card?

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

I can’t do that then I won’t have a graphics card and I don’t have the money to afford giving it to him.

But if you sell your graphics card then you also won't have a graphics card.

 

Edit: I don't think you'll be able to get away with selling one card to buy two cheaper ones either. Prices are just insane at the moment.

You are one of the lucky ones; you have a reasonably recent card which works. Keep hold of it.

LTT has like 80 cards and there is probably a line for them, i wouldn't bet on getting on.

 

If you sell your GPU and buy one for your friend (I assume you're going to short change him and buy him a cheap ass one), you won't have enough left to buy yourself a decent card when you don't get an LTT one.

Can his parents not buy him a graphics card?  Also, does he have a PC to put one in?  You only mention the Xbox.

He can get the rest of the parts but can’t get the graphics card. I am just going to skip the first launch if graphics cards from ltt to see what they have and what the prices are.
