Is an Ryzen 5 5600x and RTX 2070 Super a bottleneck?

DripGodPoseidon

Hey Forum,

I recently saw a RTX 2070 Super on ebay for a reasonable price and i want to pair it with a Ryzen 5 5600x, is it a Bottleneck or not? (for 1080p gaming)

Overkill for 1080p, but a balanced CPU/ GPU combo

Depends on the game, and the settings. There's always going to be some type of bottleneck, so if you're playing a sight seeing game, then your GPU will likely bottleneck the CPU.

I doubt the CPU will bottleneck the GPU unless you're playing CSGO/Valorant with low settings, but at that point you're going to be getting 400fps, so who cares.

The more I learn, the more I realise I don't actually know anything.

Recommendations: Lian Li 205m (sleek, pretty decent airflow for a non-mesh front panel and cheap), i5-10400f (Ryzen 5 3600 performance, 20% cheaper), Arctic P14 PWM fans, Logitech g305.

That is fine combo. No major bottleneck

I don't understand this pre-occupation with 'bottlenecks' as there'd always be bottleneck of one thing or another in a system. If primary focus is 'lite' type gaming like Fortnite, PUBG, CS;GO and the like, then a decent CPU (2600X and higher) would be okay coupled with a decent GPU, RX 580/GTX1650 Super/GTX1060 would be enough for 1080P gaming.

Of course, if the aim is 1080P + High Refresh (120Hz or higher), the an RX 3600X (or better yet, 5600X but good luck trying to find one, though I've heard stock levels have improved somewhat) and higher (I've not mentioned Intel's equivalent CPU as I'm not familiar with 'em). An upgrade in GPU may be in order as well for high refresh rate gaming, like the GTX 1660 Super or RX 5600XT at the very least (there are other options, up to buyer's budget and GPU availability which is the suck at the moment).

I'm bothered by the oft mentioned 'balanced' system and 'bottlenecks' because they more or less refer to the same thing. Sorta like when someone asks for a PSU for their system in a thread, and depending on the OP's budget, many would recommend a PSU that 'suits' the OP's present needs with a little headroom perhaps. But, should the OP decide to upgrade his GPU or CPU, or both, or add additional fans and AIO, a little down the road, then the PSU may not have sufficient juice.

A good PSU can be reused in a completely new build, so buying one with additional/sufficient headroom for future upgrade is better than buying a totally new PSU to go with the new hardware. That's my philosophy when it comes to PSU, and questions about 'bottlenecks' and 'balanced' systems.
