Any 24 inch OLED coming soon?

MS-DOS

I have a XG2401 and the only reason I haven't ditched this is because i still play QuakeWorld and QuakeLive sometimes which means any ghosting or input lag makes it a non enjoyable experience.

Of course I also like to watch movies and play other games that are darker and I don't have space for 2 monitor setup so I need just one.

Is there any 24 inch OLED monitors comming soon or are we still stuck with the same tricks?

I have looked at alternatives like the PG259QN but this doesn't look convincing to me:

Might do it for noob games but not for Quake. Are there any alternatives??

Closest u can find currently is a Display with a well tuned BFI implementation, of which there are very few as its very hard to achieve due to the way backlights are by design.

Its near impossible to get the timing right for BFI as the screen draws from top to bottom, meaning if the BFI is tuned to the center of the screen the top and bottom will be out of sync and will experience strobe crosstalk (image duplication).

BFI that works with variable refresh is also very handy, but also rare.

Until backlights are a thing of the past, BFI to combat persistence blur is going to have some amount of strobe crosstalk to deal with, which isnt ideal.

If your really into playing hardcore competitive games, like Quake, and u really want the best moving image clarity then ur best bet is to look for a mid range CRT thats still in good condition.

Other than that i'd sugest u look through reviews, rtings has a great search tool (tabel tool), and compare how well each reviewed display handles motion.

The VG279QM may be something u should look at as it has ELMB Sync ( variable refresh + BFI).

You should also keep an eye out for 42" OLEDs this year as LG fabs are producing 42" Panels, though we dont know yet where they are being used.

I cant use CRT or 42'' screens, too big.

What about this?

Aye thats a fast display for sure, though its BFI doesnt work with variable refresh unlike the 279QM

Yeah very little options currently. Maybe, there will be 4K 240Hz OLED monitors that are like 30" but even so, that thing will be priced insanely, if it ever even comes out.

How would the 279QM compare to the XG2401?

Btw I don't like that it says "TUF GAMING" in there, would rather have a default asus logo or something, but I can't find a sticker or something

Anyway, i wish I could test both 279QM and 259QN to see what you are really dealing with and compare with XG2401.

I ....i'm not sure how i should react to that tbh. Its a monitor, the only things important is the image it displays, what logo it has is irrelevant.

I dont mean to sound overly harsh but thats really a silly thing to worry about especially when ur trying to find something thats already hard to come by ..." a good Display".

Dont worry about labeling, logo's ..bezel size ..color etc.. it doesn't make a difference to the quality of the image displayed.

As for the XG2401, rtings doesnt have that specific model reviewed so there is no way to 'directly' compare it to the above images. They have the XG2402 however, which is near identical, its a year newer with slightly better response times from what i've read.

Below is its motion handling. NOTE: it does NOT have BFI, hence why its less clear.

Spoiler

https://i.rtings.com/assets/products/WQXEFpjL/viewsonic-xg2402/motion-blur-max-large.jpg

The XG2401 and 2402 are TN panels, which means terrible viewing angles, poor color reproduction, poor black levels and uniformity, and low contrast. but it does have fast pixel response. That said, they a few years old now, so fast IPS panel are as fast if not faster. (including the 279QM and 259QN)

The monitor is on a office where I recieve clients so the gaming stuff is not too business looking.

Well if there are only improvements compared to the XG2401 I will buy one of these two. I'll just have to decide which one.

Don't game where you should be working, problem solved? That aside, I don't know your clientele of course, but I honestly couldn't care less what kind of monitor the person I was meeting would be using. If it's truly that big of a deal just put it on a more "business looking" monitor stand.
