Something like xubuntu would be fine. It's light enough to run on low ram, and CPU should only matters if you need to do something CPU heavy.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

Yeah, like the other guys said Xubuntu LTS would be a great option. Pure peace of mind for 5 yrs straight along with the latest kernel.

You could also try out Zorin OS, or Zorin OS Lite, the 2nd one also got XFCE desktop environment. From the spec sheet both are pretty light with Zorin Lite taking things more lightly xD.  Zorin runs on the previous LTS kernel, but with OS overhead in mind, it's worth it IMO. Here's the link to Zorin's page.

Can you check the specs closer? There's no such thing as a Pentium 8, so I'm not sure what you've got.

In most cases I'd go with Mint. It runs well even on older hardware.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

How many air conditioning units does it take to keep that thing cool?
