Is this a legit LTT sponsorship? I'm guessing no...

alexandero11

Came across this ad on Facebook today. It looks pretty fishy. How do I bring this to the LTT team's attention? Even if it is legit, the fact that it looks so fishy warrants it being pulled in my opinion.

Volta have sponsored LTT videos before. It's possible that there was something in the contract about being able to use Linus to promote their products on Facebook ads. If not, that's kinda scummy.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

Looks like it's a screenshot from their video about the Volta Charger, sponsored by Volta:

Which was made after they featured the product in a "Handy Tech" video.

Not sure if that is a still running ad/sponsor though, as I would expect them to have newer footage.

I really dont see what the fuss is about here. They are quoting linus and showing a picture of him using the cable, in which they paid him show it to their audience.

The video is from 2017 and looking on the forum a bit I see there is some controversy about this company in the 2018, about them selling cables via Kickstartr you can buy on Aliexpress.

I haven't seen LTT get sponsored by Volta after that.

Putting Linus' face on a product is sort of making it seem like it's a stamp of approval, while it might not be (anymore) valid.

I know they had done a sponsorship before. This looked like they were using old material, maybe without permission to do an unauthorized ad run. Again, I'm not the only one in the comments of that post assuming this is fishy so that should tell somebody something.

There's no evidence of that though, and they are using an old photo, and they don't link to him in any way, they only mention his name.

Irrelevant for reasons I explained in other posts. This could still very well be unauthorized. And to be frank, you posting a video from 2017 sort of lends credence to suspicion. If that's the newest mention of this product then it most likely IS unauthorized. Ironically, you were the only one who drew any conclusions here. 🙂

Could be unauthorized. The correct people were tagged. Time to calm down.

Like Ford, that just meams they are using Mil spec components, somewhere.  Could be mil spec wire or maybe just some type of plastic coating.  There are still better components available that aren't mil spec.

As someone that's been in the Army for 18 years now I gotta say "military grade" just means overpriced garbage. Everything we get is trash and made by the lowest bidder and fails/breaks, usually during the first week of use. So when a product says military grade, maybe look elseware if you want quality.
