How to restore and keep files

Is there a way to restore windows but keep all of my files and programs? I accidentally screwed up a registry and need to reset Windows because my computer will not turn off. I have a reinstall disk, should I use that, or will that replace my programs and etc.

You could take your SSD/HDD out of your computer, hook it on to a different one and copy all your Data and for example saved gaves in order to back them up. This won't work for your installed programs though.
