3 120mm fans or 3 140mm fans

iCoNrant

Is there any noticable improvement one over the other like performance, cooling, noise etc. The case of choice is P500a In White?.

140mm fans can spin slower while pushing the same amount of air, so 3x140mm should be a bit quieter

I would say the improvement isn't massive, but definitely noticeable. After upgrading to 140mm fans myself, I can say from experience that it's pushing a decent bit more air whilst spinning at the same RPM. I currently have the fans set to never go above 800RPM (I have Arctic P14 PWM) which keeps the system nice and quiet even under full load and still provides plenty of airflow even in my semi restrictive Lian Li 205m case.

The more I learn, the more I realise I don't actually know anything.

Recommendations: Lian Li 205m (sleek, pretty decent airflow for a non-mesh front panel and cheap), i5-10400f (Ryzen 5 3600 performance, 20% cheaper), Arctic P14 PWM fans, Logitech g305.

General rule (probably oversimplifying but whatever): get the biggest fans your case supports

It depends on the fans.. there is a 98% chance my 120x38 Panaflo's will out perform every fan that will be mentioned in this thread.

That's so definitely off topic and niche that I can't come up with any reason why someone would just throw in this irrelevant information. While the basic information is right (it depends on the fan), coming up with some niche server fan is just entirely beyond the scope of this thread and beyond regular desktop pcs that this remark is just pointless.

Of course, a good 120mm fan outperforms a bad 140mm fan. But 2 fans of comparable quality intended for similar use cases, the 140mm is the better choice.

Never understand why would anyone keep bragging about their server fans. It is like someone put a giant time attack spoiler on his crappy Honda and can't stop telling people how amazing the spoiler is.

Anyways, good 120mm fans outperform average 140mm fans.

while good 140mm fans outperform them all.

However, there are only few good 140mm fans on the "consumer" market. Maybe Arctic P14 or thermalright C14x are worth considering.

( Yes, I am aware of Noctua A14, and no, it is not a good 140mm fan.)

120mm fans that worth considering are :

Nidec GentleTyphoon

Noctua A12x25 (basically a GentleTyphoon clone but with quieter bearing)

Arctic P12 (cheap A12x25 alternative)

Thermalright C12 (bearing is kinda crappy but performance is on par with GentleTyphoon*)

Thermalright C12 PRO ( same as C12 but with better bearing)

*On air coolers only, GentleTyphoon is still the king of radiators.

You should be able to buy newer Thermalright fan models on Amazon now.

Intel I7-10700KF stock - Noctua NH-D15 - A15+A12x25

Those are great 120mm fans without rgb. But I think if I want a good rgb fans might as well be lian li uni sl120 fans, they are too good for the price and looks.

Gentle typhoon is pretty hard to find actually

Thermalright C12s or C12l are rgb/argb version of C12.

Not sure if you can find it on Amazon.

FYI, Thermalright C12 is NOT suitable to be mounted horizontally, it will produce rattling noise if mounted horizontally.

Now now, no need to be like that. He asked. Those fans are probably as old as you or close to it lol.

Aliexpress has an ok selection of Thermalright fans, I considered these guys, both the TL-D14X and CL-14X.

In a case like a Meshify C something like 60cfm should get you decent front to back airflow. The weakest fan I tried in the front bottom was 74cfm and I liked it. The ones I am using now are 110cfm @ 12v but I normally run them at 7v so they are quiet like a consumer fan.. sorta.. but still quite strong, especially in a tiny case.
