What is considered "old" in the CPU world?

Got an i9 9900k OC to 5Ghz and just realised it released in 2018! That flew by! Wondered what everyone else considered "old" and worthy of upgrading? I'm guessing it all depends on what your doing with that CPU?

Very subjective question. its different based on every single need. When you no longer get the experience you want/need or its bottlenecking you, then its time to upgrade. A 9900k is still a very viable chip as long as you can keep it cool.

Depends on your needs and budget of course but the i9-9900K is still a great CPU. I use the same one and don't really feel any need for upgrading it. I can play triple A titles with great FPS so nothing to comlain about here.

some people consider my 2970WX ancient, but for me it's basically still NASA. really depends on the user i guess.

Technology moves so fast, sometimes 2018 seems outdated but it isn't. I use my i9 9900k for gaming and it's fine, probably being let down a bit by my GTX 1080, but impossible to get a 3080 at the moment.

I want to say a Intel 486 DX2, but NASA is still using that CPU on the Hubble Space Telescope and other "off world" projects, so it really depends on what your needs are.

Well if you look at just gaming, and the recent Anandtech article....your 9900k is sometimes faster than the not yet released 11700k.
