Adding Sata Drives to a Laptop with only M.2.

Hey there. I recently got a lenovo flex laptop with a broken screen and I wanted to turn it into an unraid NAS. I didn't want this functional laptop to get tossed and end up as waste. It has an i5 6200u in it which makes it a perfect candidate for me to transform it into a NAS with low power consumption.

But my hopes were quickly dashed when I saw that there were no sata ports whatsoever; only a single m.2 port for storage. I suppose I could connect my sata drives via a USB 3.0 hub, but that sounds unreliable and slow. It also has a spot for the wifi card but I am not aware of any adapter that would convert it to a sata port.

Does anyone have some 'outside the box' wisdom to allow me to connect sata drives to a laptop mobo with no sata ports?

This sounds like a job for Ali baba

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

First of all usb3 is more than fast enough for HDD-s.

And then since m.2 nvme just uses pci-e controllers like this or this do exist.
