Mac mini is not a laptop, you probably better buying a laptop that you can bring to school also.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

If you are only browsing the web, do email stuff, store photos etc. the M1 macs are fine for you. If you want to play games, use editing software, you want a normal mac, one that does not use ARM processors. Application support for ARM is not that great at the moment as most of them need to be completely rewritten from scratch. Again, if you are only using it for office like stuff and playing music, the new M1 based macs are good enough.

Keep in mind though that you will need to buy a keyboard, mouse and monitor to use the mac mini. If you want something easy on your desk to get familiar with, a basic iMac is still the way to go, if you want to get into the current Mac OS world.
