Using Corsair Vengeance Ram in a HP Pavillion gaming PC

I installed 16GB (2x8GB) of Corsair Vengeance 2666 MHz DDR4 RAM in a HP Pavillion Core i5 GTX 1050 gaming PC.

The original 8GB of RAM installed in the PC ran at 2666 MHz, but the new Corsair RAM only runs at 2133 MHz. There is no option to enable XMP in the bios and I read on a HP forum that because the RAM is low latency the motherboard has probably set the RAM to only run at 2133 MHz.

Is there any advantage to using low latency XMP RAM on this system or did I waste my time using it?

Surely the advantage is less about the latency, and more the fact that you now have double the memory available?

 

8GB to 16GB is a reasonable upgrade, so no, I don't think you wasted your time.

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.
