Did Asus killed PG32UQX and replace it with PG32UQ?

Hardware Guy

Here is the original announcement last year.

https://rog.asus.com/articles/gaming-monitors/the-rog-swift-pg32uqx-delivers-the-best-4k-hdr-gaming-experience-yet/

And there is already a product made

And in 2021 we only got this

I guess was due to covid? Any offical news or rumors? And honestly speaking the PG32UQX is the true successor of the PG27UQ which review by linus few years ago.

iirc the 32uq is an even worse version of the 27uq, the branding's kinda sus, prolly trying to get buyers to not notice the downgrade, the uqx is likely coming later waiting on ports.

The panels are unlikely to all change

rumored prices (forgot where i saw them) is 5k and 7k for the 27 and 32uqx, not sure about the proart versions.

Hi all !

Sorry for my bad English. After asking the question regarding the availability of the Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX monitor to a large reseller in Switzerland. They told me that the release for Switzerland is currently scheduled for April - May. 🙂

So you asked the support or are you referring to the post of Digitecs news regarding CES 21?

Any official statement were stating the bit "cheaper" brother ROG Swift PG32UQ will launch in Q1, therefore at the latest end of march.

Sadly there are still no news, so I'm getting afraid, that they will postpone the launch.

My system specs:

I contacted customer support directly regarding the PG32UQX. Apparently it will arrive before the PG32UQ.

I also contacted directly Asus Switzerland and they explained the same thing about the PG32UQX.

Oh no 😞 I was hoping, that it is the other way round...The flagship PG32UQX will be a monster for sure, but atm I'm not willing to spend 2k-3k for a monitor. The expected price of the PG32UQ will be around 1.2-1.5k, which is a better value imho. I had huge luck with my computer parts (newest gen MB, CPU and GPU), but now I'm stuck with my ancient 60hz 21" FullHD monitor from 2009. XD

There are also nice options for 27" models like the Asus ROG Strix XG27UQ or the LG 27GN950, but 32" should be perfect with 4k.

Maybe you are right. The last flagship PG27UQ was around 2.5-3k but this time it's a 32". In Switzerland the huge PG65UQ is around 4k, so I'll have to correct my statement and would say it will be between 3k and 4k at launch.

If you're interested, here's a picture of what I imagine to be the final version of the PG32UQX. For me it is now obvious that the monitor is not canceled as was PG27UQX

This visual appears in a recent article on the Nvidia website. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/g-sync-2021-innovations/

I always check this site for the latest monitor news since I've been patiently waiting on the PG32UQ to launch and still no news.

https://www.displayspecifications.com/en

I've even passed on buying the XG27UQ several times when I've been notified of sales. I agree with the general consensus, 32" will be the perfect 4K resolution and there's speculation it will be HDR600 or HDR1000 as well. Gotta stay patient I guess...

only the pg32uqx and x32 is listed for now for now, im only interested in the 27inch, hoping for the rumored proart version now.

delays are again likely due to display port updates.

which leads to waiting for next gen gpus too i guess...nothing's in stock anyway.

perfer everything to be hdmi 2.1 dp2.0 to avoid issues, it's janky enough as is.

That’s exactly what I mean. But given the expected price of the 32UQX, I don’t think ASUS is really motivated to release it anytime soon

I contacted my local ASUS support regarding the ROG Swift PG32UQ and they couldn't give me either the date nor a reference price. My hopes for a release in Q1 are getting smaller and smaller every day.

Quote

ROG Swift PG32UQ

ROG Swift PG32UQ is the world’s first 32 -inch HDMI 2.1 gaming monitor and features a 144 Hz IPS panel with a 1ms moving picture response time (MPRT). It has two HDMI 2.1 ports to support up to 4K visuals at up to 120 Hz on the latest gaming consoles. It also has Display Stream Compression (DSC) technology, a compression standard for transporting ultra-high definition video streams across a single interface at high speed with no perceptible loss of visual quality. It allows PG32UQ to support up to 4K 144 Hz visuals via a single DisplayPort 1.4 connection.

PG32UQ is G-SYNC Compatible[1] ready and features ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB Sync) technology and ASUS Variable Overdrive technology for consistently smooth visuals at variable frame rates. For color performance, PG32UQ is DisplayHDR™ 600 compliant, has 160% sRGB and 98% DCI-P3 color gamut support, and is factory pre-calibrated to ensure Delta E < 2 color accuracy.  ROG Swift PG32UQ will be available at the end of the first quarter of 2021.

A few things that need to be kept in mind:

  1. The PG32UQX and Acer X32 (same panel) were shown at CES last year.  It's very rare that a company will show the same product at two CES'.  Specially in a row.  So that's why neither were shown this year even though neither of them have shipped yet.
  2. The PG32UQX and Acer X32 are using a panel from AU Optronics, which struggled all last year to get the production of said spun up given the pandemic and other factors.  Even without the pandemic, AUO constantly misses shipping dates, so it's really no surprise we haven't seen either monitor yet.  Odds are pretty good that neither Asus nor Acer can get enough panels from AUO, in bulk, to build their respective monitors.
  3. ViewSonic will be shipping a monitor based on the same AUO panel sometime this summer (supposedly).  So that'll cut into the supply a bit for the other two.
  4. The new PG32UQ probably won't ship this year.  Or if it does, it'll be at the end of the year.  It's very rare that Asus shows off a monitor in CES and then ships it quickly following.  I'm not saying it definitely won't ship in '21, but it's not likely to be soon.  My guess is second half of this year, leaning into winter.
  5. As for pricing of the UQX and/or X32: expect mid-high $3000US given the FALD tech, resolution, and refresh rate.  They ain't gonna be cheap.  I can't speculate what the lesser-capable UQ will go for.

Hmm, interesting statements, thank you. The UQX model will be not ASUS' top priority as it is an absolute enthusiast product and only a few will buy it.

But for your nr. 4, the slightly more affordable alternative product, I have to ask again, sorry.

Why would ASUS then announce it for the end of Q1? Was this also "normal behavior" for ASUS before the pandemic? I mean in January at CES 21 they were well aware of the problematic situation in the supply of panels and other key portions. This can't be said for CES 20 where the UQX was announced.

Did they actually say, "end of Q1"?  Or did they say something that someone else misinterpreted as such?  Asus isn't in the habit of announcing ETAs on shipping like that, specially when they show something off at CES.  In fact they've been very careful not to offer such shipping ETAs in the past.

Also of note, earlier in the thread:

Nope.  There are droves of people that are gnashing their teeth, expecting the PG32UQX and X32 displays to be re-fitted with HDMI 2.1.  It's NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.  Folks have GOT to get that through their skulls.  Asus already said as much late last year after the debunked Taobao(sp?) article came out in October.  HDMI 2.0 and DP1.4.  That's it.  That's all.

That is quite unlike them.  I suspect they're waiting for AUO to deliver the panel for that monitor, as well.

The thing is that they are not in a hurry. LG and Acer also don't have products on the market yet, that would directly rival the two PG32's.

As I said, at this moment I'm just hoping. Maybe they can live up to their announced availability statement or maybe they were just too optimistic.

I'm not experienced in this field at all and am glad, that here are well informed members online.

This new video is for the pg32uq not the pg32uqx as a current user of the pg27uq the pg32uq seems like a downgrade the only reasonable upgrade is the x which will hopefully be around 2000

The hdr spec drops from 1000 with 1000 nits on the pg27uq to 600 on the 32uq lame

If you check nvidias site the 32uqx is on listing for "gsync ultimate" monitors along with the 27uq the 32uq is not listed so it is either not certified yet or didn't make the cut
