Mic not working on office laptop and external mic also does not work.

Hi, I am currently working from home and miles away from my office. I had accidentally damaged my office laptop, and now the mic is not working. I tried using a USB external mic which works on a personal laptop but does not work on my office laptop even after installing drivers. Can you please let me why the external mic does not work on my work laptop, and how can I fix the issue? I appreciate any help you can provide.

Depending on the software you use to communicate with others, is it set as the default input device for sound?

Lets say you dropped the laptop in water and the mic broke.
The laptops mic is broke but everything else is fine.

If the USB port still works plugging in a USB mic should just work. I would suggest checking your settings when the USB mic is plugged in. (in windows. Go to Settings -> System -> down to Sound -> under Input make sure the drop down is selecting the USB mic.
