OLED Monitor?

JBurlison

Hi all,

I am looking for a HDR monitor, one with a great picture! Price is not a concern and I also have a 3090 with a 10900k so I can pretty much drive whatever monitor I want. There's so many I don't know what one has the best picture quality. Prefer ultrawide as I do work on it. I do game but play more casual games like some light wow, Minecraft, Valheim, PoE. I beat the story of most AAA games that come out for PC too. I'm not too concerned with getting 300 hz on it but I def want over 60. Top of the line picture quality is what I'm really aiming for here. Any suggestions?

EDIT:

I did have the Odyssey G9 from best buy but had to return it as there was flickering and the top few alternating rows of pixels where dim. The colors looked very off too.

There would be some LTT videos on this.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Oled not great, unless you want to burn money.

Good for visuals though. Heard a lot of issues with ultrawide screens and about the G9 not being the best quality which is a shame.

HDR is a different story, for gaming. Don't think it will be good for ultra wide in a while, as in power consumed and being heavy to level of brightness levels that you would need.

There are a few OLED monitors. Most of them are in the 50-60" range or ~20" though

From what I could tell they're not the best for pc monitors mainly due to burn in and limited sizes/refresh rates

Here's a decent list of OLEDs available

Could always just use a TV like the LG CX 48"

I feel like a TV would be too big for in front of me. Any suggestions for non oled with high hdr ratings and good black levels?

The only true monitor I like is my LG 38" 3840 X 1600 IPS monitor.

The reason I like it is that unlike my 3440 X 1440 monitor it stands up well against 4k in text quality and it has enough vertical height so it does not feel like looking through a slit.

A 3840 X 1600 monitor is a lot harder to run than a 3440 X 1440 monitor and frames in games are closer to 4k so I would not recommend one for anyone that does not have a 2080 ti or better.

I also use TVs as monitors.

LG 55" OLEDs for gaming and a 49" NanoCell for general computing. All have HDMI 2.1 and are 120hz at 4k with a 30 series card.

The OLEDs are great but they are not a single monitor solution.

IF u get a 48" (or upcoming 42") OLED TV u can, if u so choose, run it at 3840 x 1440 or some other vertical resolution below 2160, for an ultrawide experience.

I often run my 42" plasma in ultrawide, granted I have to go the extra step of using DSR due to it being a 1080p display, but it works well for ultrawide none the less.

What you want does sadly not exist unless you get a tv 😞

The monitor market is just that bad yes

well miniLED is coming out, and they will have in the range of 1400 nits of brightness?

Although have to see about the quality range for adjusting brightness and details and if it will be long before ultrawide MiniLED.

This year it seems like the miniLEDs are coming out, might be as expensive or more than OLED, they might be set to be in higher resolution (4K) but unsure.
