Can i install NVMe drive in my PC?

Hi. i have quite聽an old PC with i7 4770K Asus Maxims VI Hero. does my system support NVMe or not?

i had a Samsung 850 Pro 256Gb and that went dead. idk why but it does not show聽up when connected anymore.聽馃槶

if my PC does not support NVMe then any suggestions for SSD? what about the new 870 EVO? i dont really trust Samsung anymore but as far as i have read and heard Samsung SSDs are the most reliable.

my聽use case on PC is pretty much gaming and i play emulator games nowadays (new addiction 馃槵)

It should. Being Z97 though it'll almost certainly聽disable two SATA ports, so refer to your manual to make sure you're not using them.

Nevermind, Google is a stinky doodoo head and fucked up my search. 馃槧

Being Z97

The Maximus VI Hero is a Z87 board, and does not support NVMe. From what I can tell, it doesn't even have a M.2 port.

can you guys recommend me any good SSD? also i have a question i have this WD CAVIAR BLACK as my boot drive for now but it gets too choppy and too much laggy. idk why but i dont remember hard drives this choppy. im saying this because i play on BlueStacks 4 which is emulator and the games give me like proper stutters. is there some settings in bios like ACHI or IDE or something that can make it a little like NORMAL?

The reason things in BlueStacks run like garbage is just because it's BlueStacks. It's never been known for running well.

I get that you aren't super keen to go Samsung again, but the 870 EVO is tried and true so that's probably the line I'd go with (as long as it's the SATA one, of course).

Honestly kinda odd that your 850 EVO just up and fucked off already, so it might be worth tossing it in another PC or whatever to see if it shows up there. Better to rule out something stupid like a funky connection/SATA port or a bad cable than to jump the gun and buy a whole new SSD.

booting off a hdd is gonna be slow no matter what you do. Adding a lot more ram can help, but really just get a good ssd.

Samsung is basically the best, and the most relilable ssds out there. You just got unlucky. Id get another 870 evo or just get another good sata ssd like a wd blue, s31, mx500 and others.

NVMe drives will work fine on your board, but won't be bootable without a bios mod.

Unfortunately I can't. As far as I'm aware, BlueStacks is聽the best emulator.
