Should work. If you use it for the OS I recommend you to reinstall it because it will mess up the drivers.

So tomorrow im getting stuff for a new pc build and i wanna keep my old HDD since it has all of my school stuff and games and stuff and i wanted to know if i can just plug it on the new pc or if i need to do something with it. It was the only storage on this current pc and i bought an M.2 ssd and planning to run the OS on that.

Should work. If you use it for the OS I recommend you to reinstall it because it will mess up the drivers.
