We've both given up...XPS 13 7390 or Envy 13 (non-x360)

Following on from my previous post

Do no good laptops exist anymore? - Laptops and Pre-Built Systems - Linus Tech Tips

My friend has decided on one of these 2. They are both on sale for the same price with basically the same specs with the only difference being the CPU, which doesn't really matter since it's not going to be pushed to 100% ever anyway.

Both FHD 400nit screens

256GB SSD

8GB Ram.

XPS - i5 10510u

Envy - i5 1135G7

with the main points being

-build quality

-screen quality

-keyboard quality

-reliability

Which one would be better?

If your friend is okay with the whole USB-C only thing, go with the XPS. Dell's laptops have never been particularly pretty, but they get the job done.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

When you’ve got it narrowed down to just 2 models with close specs, it’s best to just ask your friend which one looks better and go with that.

Yes there are some differences in build quality and bloatware, but if your friend isn’t the one here making the choice, he’ll never be happy with the one you chose for him.

Also check if there are any stores nearby that are open that have a demo unit out for display, so your friend can go out and make the choice himself instead of forcing the decision onto you.

I’ll be back with some shortcircut videos going over these laptops if I find them in the next 5 min.

Older model but build quality should be similar if not practically the same

Older model again but more info

Hp envy 14

couldn’t find anything on your 2 models, but I’d go with the hp for the newer cpu with better iGPU.
