Why am I downloading a 26 GB warzone 'update', and why does it say 'copying'?

Mark Kaine

Honestly what is wrong with the devs, every time I start this game there's an update - but now a 26 gig patch is just hilarious... wanna bet the game plays exactly as before...

This is the worst 'benchmark test' I've ever downloaded (yes I already know the game is a snooze fest, the only redeeming quality that it has its not as terrible as other fps shooters, the weapon mechanics and animations are actually pretty good, but not 26 GB good, or rather 84GB, graphics are 5/10, and that there's like no environmental interaction is a joke, is that in the paid version? )  😂

Anyways, ok *now* it's actually downloading, wtf was the 30 minutes of 'COPYING' for then?

The 'patch notes' also didn't change... *at all* this is an old patch I already had installed obviously

Warzone Season 2 just launched, which is what the update is for, among other things.

In terms of the size, lots of people complain about it. I don't think the devs have really given any solid answer to why they're always so massive. They have got a lot of assets from Cold War as well now and a tonne of skins, but I do find it hard to believe it really needs to be so large. It might just be structured in a way that makes it very easy for them to change parts by making it modular but the size is a tradeoff.... Just speculation on my part.

As for copying, it's due to how the update is applied, it needs to copy the main files to add the patches to them and commit the changes.

Patch notes are here btw:

Textures is not compressed. Old engine etc. Did you uninstall the base game so that you only have warzone installed?

My game takes 80gb or so, maybe a little more, not +170gb as others who installed the full game. I did have to delete the game and then download again, to customize the installation.. Pretty sure these "patches" sometimes just replaces existing skins and so on. Skins takes 1/3 of the space at least 😆

yeah i saw that now too that it finally downloaded - I'm just baffled there's no announcement whatsoever - in the launcher, it just feels quite buggy - what triggered me making this topic was that I've been sitting there waiting for it to 'fetch' a *3MB* file for 15 minutes or so lol...

And I had to restart the launcher several times because it simply got stuck, and once while in game, also got stuck... I guess that's just typical CDN woes, but I'm certainly not used to it, and that's also a big reason why I gave up on consoles, just way too many patches and updates with slow and buggy content delivery...

As for the update itself that seems actually quite good - but I can't really judge performance as I have a new monitor (Gsync) and it ran buttery smooth, I gotta say no screen tearing and 1440p is a game changer...

From what I saw they added dynamic resolution (which I despise) but certainly a good option for people struggling with 'da frames' and I guess in lieu of no DLSS the best alternative.

And thanks for the answer, I really half anticipated this patch would change absolutely nothing as did any of the other patches before since I'm playing this - a few weeks - which were much smaller tho.

My game takes 80gb or so,

I've never installed the full game and it's 84 GB, I forgot to check if it actually added some size now after the update.

I mean that wasn't really a complaint about the size rather that *every time* I start this game there seems to be a patch, and the experience was quite buggy and time consuming for sure - it'd probably still download if I hadn't restarted the launcher several times.

Okay but is it the same patch downloading every time? I get frequent updates too, but it's a new patch every time. Not always +20gb, sometimes it's just 100-200mb.
