NVME M.2 on LSI 9361-8i raid card, is it possible?

gaby_64

I bought a M.2 to U.2 adapter that allows me to insert the M.2 NVME SSD and connect via a U.2 to SAS Mini HD (SFF-8643) to my LSI Megaraid 9361-8i.

But the ssd is not showing up on the controller.

I sthere a way to get this working?

That card is for SATA or SAS drives only. NVME drives use a different protocol, so its not one of those " just use an adapter" situations.

so even a sas 2.5" nvme ssd would not work?

There is no sas nvme ssd. Nvme ssds use pcie, which is incompatible with sas.

There are some broadcom cards than can do both pcie and sas, like the 9400 series, but really just connect the pcie ssd to your board directly.

I was mistaking U.2 for SAS, the intent was to enable CacheCade, I guess Ill have to buy a SAS drive and just keep the nvme for my board.

Yup. Or your probalby much better off just using caching software in your os, they canceleded cachecade cause it wasn't great.

Agree. Tried cachecade, and it's not really that great.

Out of software cache SW, I liked the most bcache under Linux.

For Windows, Primocache is decent, although it has some of it's own disadvantages - but generally it's quite decent software.
