My desktop shuts down 3 seconds after I turn it on

Emil_Loenneberg SE

Hello.

I don't know why, but everytime I start my desktop it shuts down again just after 3 seconds.

What could be the cause for that?

It started to happen yesterday.

The desktop is about 1 year old. It's a prebuilt Acer Nitro.

Specs:

  • Intel® Core™ i5-10400F processor

  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Super GPU

  • 8 GB DDR4 RAM, 512 GB SSD

The PSU is 500 watts, since it's a prebuilt, it doesn't say more than 500 watts.

The coin cell battery, usually cr2032, on the motherboard. Watches also use coin cells, so that's probably why it was mentioned like that.

Agreed. Not nearly enough information here to tell what's wrong. If OP is unfamiliar with PC troubleshooting and hardware in general, it's probably best to contact a repair shop.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

Replacing the CMOS battery won't cause the PC to shut down immediately, it will just cause the BIOS settings to revert back to default every reboot/boot up.

Well, anyways... thats most definitely the PSU failing.. you should really be thankful that it didnt fry your components if its actually the PSU. Installing a new PSU should fix the problem..

500W or 550W would be ideal for your system. I mostly choose from bequiet!, but Corsair, EVGA, Seasonic, XPG and a few others are just fine too.. (CoolerMaster is great too, a bit underrated)

Note to yourself: DO YOU NOT GET A GIGABYTE PSU thank you very much
