New Illinois Bill Could Ban Violent Video Games Containing 'Psychological Harm' or 'Carjacking'

Why does this guy think that these games that literally millions of people play causes people to commit violent crimes? If that were the case it would be a literal warzone outside all day every day. The places with the most crime probably can't even afford to play these games anyways so why are they so hung up on it? There are so many more productive ways to limit violent crime than this dumb bill.

Classic deflection tactics used in politics to look like you're trying to do something and gain supporters.

 

The real problems (poverty, drug abuse, mental & physical abuse, mental heath issues) are too difficult to fix so instead they focus on the easy targets that they know don't really have a huge impact in reality but will have a huge impact in the media and on their public image.

 

What baffles me is how these people don't know about Jack Thompson and how it all ended for him.

My heart knows instantly whether my thoughts, actions, etc are moral by my standards - human choice, not video games is the driver for violence. 

 

 

So I took a step back while typing that - I literally practice BJJ 5 times a week or more, and we jokingly call it simulated murder in the safest way possible.  Wonder when they will attack that industry (martial arts, etc) - the funny thing is, the more I grow in BJJ, the more I abhor using violence - with great power comes great responsibility.

It always looks pathetic when billion dollar companies with record profits complain about and try everything, including spending millions, trying to stop piracy rather than address more core issues like availability and affordability. And it's not that I don't think piracy isn't actually a crime and has negative impacts on the industry but pouring millions in to ineffective efforts to stop it just looks idiotic when complaining about losing money due to it.

who said anything about video games... i said that your world view is flawed. you said you are against any kinds of governing. you do know that without governing you wouldnt be able to carry a gun or teach martial arts. also morals? morals are thought. if you could think for yourself you would know that its impossible to not have a government. You are allowed to express your view on the world right now just because of the governing. If there was no governing of any kind you would be dead.

Just extremely lazy lawmakers wanting an easy answer to a complex problem while demanding we pat them on the back.

 

Anybody with 2 working brain cells knows that video games aren't the root of the problem. However, I will not deny that it may exacerbate it in rare cases where a player already has serious mental health issues.

 

We have a mental health (as well as a bad parenting) crisis in this country. The current 'up in arms' political and cultural climate doesn't help.
