My brothers brand new computer is crashing when he tries to play games.

Kagesuro

I built my brother a computer for Christmas and it's been working very well until today when he went to play games. Every time he launched any game his computer restarts. I've tried different ram, changed the cpu cooler, and made sure everything was up to date. It doesn't matter the game after a couple minutes it's restarts the whole machine. It works when surfing the internet and when doing work in excel and other microsoft programs. I'm really at a loss at what the problem can be and am looking for any assistance.

DDu nd reinstall the drivers with a one version old install. (so if its v1.1234 [bs number btw] do v1.1233)

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

What GPU is in there and how much Watts is the PSU?

Can you tell us the full spec of the machine and maybe a pic of it in its 'natural environment'. It seems like it crashes too quick for it to be ambient induced thermals but worth checking.

You did paste the CPU right? lol

Have you brought up hwinfo and re-created to see behaviour of the CPU (thermal and boost) and GPU (thermal and boost)?

SETUP:

  • Ryzen 9 3900XT @ 4.3 all core (peak core voltage 1.3)  (water)
  • 2x8GB TeamGroup 8Pack Ripped Edition 3600mhz CL14
  • RTX 2080ti OCd @ +150 core, +1000 memory (water)
  • Aorus B550 Elite (rev1)

Personal Bests:

  • Cinebench R15: 1785  1883 (Aug 2020)
  • Cinebench R20: 4136  4243 7125 7550 (Feb 2021)
  • 3DMark/Time Spy: 10,238 13,106 13,993 14,149 15,295 (Feb 2021)

Should be plenty. With the emphasis on should 😛 Check for loose connectors, particularly on the GPU and PSU.

There's another often overlooked issue. I almost did it myself last week, when assembling a system from old parts, when I noticed the boxed cooler didn't have a thermal pad. 👁️‍🗨️

I did check paste it was my first thought that it was over heating, but it stayed the same temp. I even tried a different cooler to make sure.

Right? I always get paranoid after I put my block on "wait... did I use paste?" then I look at my fingernails and my answer is "yes".

Spread method ftw 😎

Have you overclocked the 2070?

Perhaps underclocking it might help?

This is me spitballing ideas and not following any "Layer1 up" approach to troubleshooting.

It should be ur GPU’s problem. Try resetting the card to stock first, then learn how to overclock safely
